Looking to get some studio monitors, planning on spending no more than $400 U.S. dollars (I'm poor) these are my favorite so far. I don't have the opportunity to listen to any studio monitors though. The closest place I can listen is 250 miles(about 400 kilometers) away. So any help would be appreciated, I would prefer actives, but if someone has a passive amp combo that would work I'm all ears. Thanx ahead of time

Those ESI's seem decent, I hadn't heard of them before. I wasn't real interested in the Event TR series.
Thanx for the info
Anybody had any experience with these before? |

Alesis hold their own in their price range. Considering you can get some used ones for about 300 dollars .
However, only minor flaws on those monitors is that they aren't completely flat... some ppl have said that they tend to have a little bit of heavy low end, perhaps some low end that isnt even there.
Another thing is that they don't have a protection circuitry (circuit breaker) in case they are overloaded.
Now, since you said you have a budget of $400.00... I would recommend hands down the EVENT 20/20 bas (bi-amplified version). You can find these for about 400.00 used. Keep in mind im referring to the amplified version. Also, keep in mind there is the bi-amplified and the powered version. Bi amplified has an amp on each monitor, including a seperate amp for the sub and tweeter (total of four amps), with an active crossover. The regular powered version has two amplifiers on one monitor (master monitor) and has no crossover. Obviously the BAS would be a better choice than the regular amplified version.
Another advantage the Events would have over the Alesis is that the ports are in the front. Gives more flexibility in case you position your speakers against the wall. 20/20s offer a 8" woofer, instead of a 6.5" (alesis), giving better translation of lower frequencies.
I own a pair of the events 20/20 powered and they are great, and seem relatively flat (no obvious boosts in any frequency, though obviously that is a relative subjective statement). Now keep in mind that in a sense, the comparison with the Alesis and Events isn't fair as the Alesis now retail for about 399.99 and the Event 20/20 bas retail for 899.99. However, if you take advantage of purchasing a good used set of the Events, you can find them within your budget. |

No- They lack a little bit of lowend.
They're the best set of monitors you can get up until you get to the SP8, Genelec, Mackie HRs IMO. I'd mix on M1's over Genelecs any day of the week. |

Uh yeah they do...maybe your talking about the older model that are not active.
Its funny how people see this as really ty cause of the price tag. Anyone ever hear a pair of Yamaha NS10's? well they got so popular because they sound so bad...lol...the thing was that if you could get a mix sounding good on teh NS10's, it would sound good on anything. Oh yeah,I forgot to mention that Ian Van Dahl mix on the older model Alesis Monitors. But I guess anyone can have an opinion when it comes to this..I love mine! |

Oh they do have they have a circuit breaker included? I read a review someone gave about theirs and they mentioned it didnt have one. Im referring to the M1 MkII actives. I also was thinking of getting these (at one time) and I looked at the specs and never saw anything referring to protection circuitry in case of overload. |

PWM provides protection from line voltage surges that would otherwise destroy the amplifier. No user replaceable fuse is required because nuisance tripping is eliminated. |
Basically the power supply unit built into the monitors do not need circuit breakers. |

heh, wheres Etherium when you need him.
If you buy monitors and find they dont sound as good as you were hoping, you can always resell them, or maybe even return them. You might find something is better for you than for someone else. |
