Kick drum EQ?

This is the way I usually apply EQ on my kick drum. I reduce around 300Hz (and a little above that too) to remove muddiness, and then I add a bit on the frequencies below 100Hz, if needed. When it comes to higher frequencies, I perhaps increase around 5000 Hz to get some appearance, but that's pretty much it.
How do you EQ your kick drums? |

| I always drop everything below 40hz, helps to not cause problems with the bassline. Other than that it just depends on the kick and what part of it I want to bring out more or get rid of. If I'm layering alot of times I'll just drop everything but the part of the kick that I want, like the tail for e.g. But dropping below 40hz I probably do 99% of the time. |

Okey, sounds like a good procedure. I cut frequences below about 30-20 hz myself. |

I once ripped a bassdrum from: "Three Drives - Greece 2000", and cut some of the 100hz of it. I then gave it some 4000hz for the 'pumpin'-feeling and it was done! |

| it depends vastly on the kick drum you've got. the only way to be sure what you are doing is to run every new kick drum you use through a spectrum analyser to see which frequency range it occupies and then EQ it based on that. some kicks are more bassy than others. some are more mid and treble. some of that bass end slap and sub bass tail |
