FINALLY I think I've killed it. I mean, this annoying hijacker had had complete control over my favs and startpage for days now - adaware and spybot did no good, since it reappeared every startup...
So I searched for it manually. And FINALLY, I found a dll file I think is the cause... and NOW! SHREDDING TIME! Bwahaahahahaaaa!
I just pray it doesn't come back tomorrow.
EDIT: I also decided to dl Firefox because of this... I hope it doesn't get it's ass whipped as easily. |

| ugh...i feel for you. I just got rid of some virus that blocked access to symantec, mcafee, trendmicro and some other websites, and was also a keylogger. I have norton antivirus so couldnt update or anything. Had to manually go in and delete files and registry entries. Thought i was rid of it, but then it came back. Had to do the delete process over again in both mine and my wifes log ins. |

I know what you're talking about buddha, I had the same exact virus problem. It's that 'gaobot' thing, right? I was gettin' really pissed because I couldn't connect to any antivirus site or even use LiveUpdate to get the newest virus definitions either. It's funny though, because I was searching forums on the internet and there was this one free site that had a small application that found the virus and wiped it off my comp.
Thank god for that, now I can live at peace for now. |

I hate browser hijackers!
had one a couple of months ago, that changed the start page and generated (at the start) 2 porn popups.
at first it was not too annoying, the start page was a page that looked very much like MSN, same styling etc, just not MSN of course.
The 2 popups only happened when u first used IE after a restart of the pc, u got the 2 popups then that was it, pop up free surfing until the next time the PC was booted.
i used the usual, spybot, adaware etc etc to get rid of it, yes they detected it all right, but could not get rid of it.
no biggie i thought . . . however after a couple of weeks the pop ups started becoming more obscene in nature and a lot more of them, again i tried the usual, searched forums etc but nothing would clear the damn thing off my system.
i went thru the registry, found keys in the IE reg settings, so went back to a back up of the registry.
i checked the MS system files, start up files, everything! edited, deleted, restored, u name it, it was done in an attempt to get rid of this hi-jacker.
next boot up . . they are back and worse than ever!
3 weeks have passed since my browser had been hijacked, the pop ups are now every 10 seconds, leave the pc to go to the toilet and wow!
takes 5 minutes to close them all down ( no Alt F4 would not do the job cos those pop ups spawned new pop ups)
OK, enough is enough . .
Cure: i backed up all my vital files to CD and reformatted my HD and reinstalled windows . . .
system has been clean for 5 weeks now, but if it happens again, i am not gonna go thru the process of trying to kill it or delete it, it was far quicker to just reinstall windows.

| I got hijacked by upsearch.org a while back and spybot and adaware couldn't get rid of it. I had other issues as well so I've formatted my hard drive. I recommend everyone download SpywareBlaster (which "immunises" your computer against certain spyware) and SpywareGuard which runs in the background and informs you whenever something dodgy tries to dl itself or when something tries to change your start/homepage, or when a new tolbar tries to add itself to your browser. Both of these are freeware from javacools. |

| usually when they auto-install after removal like that you have to clean your registry. search for any keys with the homepage page name in it. then look in your windows/system32 folder for any dll you think the program may be using. check your windows add/remove programs also. i had a big problem a while back with a page "mysearch" that started hijacking my dns so when i type in a valid web addy it took me somewhere else, damn that was annoying. after you get it out (I use spybot search & destroy, nod32, and hijack this.) put up a firewall and/or customize your IE settings like the last guy suggested. i haven't had a prob since. if you need the newest version of spybot or hjt or nod post here and ask, i have some progs on my webpage i'll give a link. gl~ |

you will probably get a notification on some sites (eg. www.uefa.com) warning you the page will not display correctly, but that's just bollocks. the vast majority of sites will remain fully functional. |
doesnt seem like a big problem,thanx:D |
