Ru Sans
Nashville outpost of a famous Atlanta sushi chain known for its creative cuisine. The menu is dauntingly large, with categories including traditional Japanese dinners, yakitori (grilled skewers), and Japanese noodles, Asian inspired appetizers and what the menu calls Pacific Rim seafood (upscale Pan Asian seafood entrees). Traditional sushi is very good and the prices aren’t bad. Most interesting are the highly creative house specialties.

Nashville restaurants come and go, but 12th. & Porter continues to dish up a most eclectic menu. Pastas are featured prominently and all are fabulous, as are the individual-sized pizzas, the calzone of the day, any of the Middle Eastern-inspired dishes and the decadent desserts. Portions are generous, so expect a stack of to-go boxes.

Hair of the Dog
An all purpose club, with coffee from Portland Brew, good café food, martinis, happy hour, coffee drinks, art on the walls for looking or buying, poetry night, a music room, writers nights, bands nearly every night, a billiard table and a long, long bar. The list of light eats is both interesting enough to keep you there and casual enough to be comfortable. Everything save the fork is “fork food,” designed to be eaten with the fingers or a fork, no knife needed. Make a meal of small bits like salmon spring rolls, veggie olive quesadillas, zucchini fritters, roasted eqqplant and garlic dip.

Venue Directions:
• I-40 from the West:
Follow I-40 East and merge with I-24 East. At the I-40 / I-24 split follow I-40 West toward Memphis. Exit I-40 West at Demonbreun St. and take a right on Demonbruen toward downtown. Take Demonbruen to 12th Avenue and go right. The venue will be just a few blocks down on the left.
• I-65 from the North
I-65 South will merge with I-24 East. Follow I-24 East and merge with I-40 West. Follow directions above.
• I-65 from the South:
Take I-65 North past the 440 exits and take exit for Wedgewood Ave. Take left on Wedgewood. At the first stoplight take a right on 8th Ave. Continue on 8th Ave. to Division St. and turn left. From here go less than one mile and turn right on 12th. Ave. Venue will be less than 100 yards on left.
• I-40 from the East:
