they are responsible for mtv and billboard. no surprise here.

oh, and Late Show Top 10 List with Dave Letterman. choice!

i am an american, and i do look at the top lists, whenever it is posted .. i don't get why you have to single out americans . everyone makes lists . sometimes people are bored, and just make a list out of curiosity to compare with their other fellow mates here. others, as one stated before, look for more "sources" to download .

but you don't have to single out americans. everyone does it.

Didn't you know it's the "in" thing to single out Americans? What's a thread on TA without someone bashing the United States? Maybe if there were less Americans on TA it would be less noticeable.

Babies...before we're done here...y'all are gonna be wearin' gold-plated diapers.

Classic walken right there, ;).

I for one don't really give a about them, because they usually end up in an arguement over opinions, which is pointless to me. I like songs that others don't like, and vise-versa.

This thread had alot of potential to be an interesting debate if indeed a link could be made with the american culture being the causation or result of ranking music.

However, I find these top 100/ top of .. threads to be nothing more than an attempt by MP3 file downloaders to discover or amass a list of music which DJ's and trance fans think are worth downloading. MP3 file sharing is a global problem; as a result one can not justify americans as being the major benificiary of this crime, unless you could prove otherwise.

I also caution you in making assumptions based on country of origin statistics found on tranceaddicts because such information can be easily manipulated. ( for example, I currenty or when I registered could change my country flag or location my visiting my profile tab) Thus the reliability of your finding is questionable and requires further anylisis.

Cheers,

Dave

most people's answers have predictably veered off topic, so ill try and clarify myself
i was trying to get an idea if americans are as competitive as i think they are (based on, amongst other things, 2 weeks i spent in the USA a while back and the general impressions I get from USA TAs' posts). my impression of US culture is that people are obsessed by their standing in comparison with other people - they love being in the top 10 for the class/year/GPA etc. i think this even extends to having their favourite DJ in as high a position in the Top100 as possible.

maybe im wrong here, but i would like some sensible opinions on this from as many people as possible

and lets try and keep PvD and Tiesto out of this thread
