yes but you have to remember mate. that this tune is like 8 or so years old.. and not only that, its not trying to be a trance tune of todays standards... A] because todays standards were not yet set.. and also B] cos robert miles considered his style as dream trance... a genre i think he created and pulled off very well indeed... see Fable for examples ;)

personally, i think children did its purpose... got recognised for its true innovativaty [word?] , showed that there is thought in electronic music [which was less appreciated back then], and showed that just cos it has a 4/4 dance beat it dosnt mean that it cant be intelligent, which is one major thing i found people misunderstood back then.

Children's a classic for me, because it's such pure trance, it wasn't trying to do anything but uplift people. cynical twats like Ishkur slating it, this track is a classic. It may be clichéd now thanks to the overwhelming play it got (it was the second biggest selling single worldwide in 1996) but it was always going to be a victim of it's own success.

hoo gives a flying what that guy thinks? ... honestly.. just cos he wasted his time on a biased website, dosnt mean hes the be all and end all. sorry if this seems like a rant at you, its not.

it just amazes me how ppl take in to account the ramblings of biased self proclaimed elitest idiot.

but that aside, yes your right :)

I still drop The original from time to time at work.
Anthem it most definately is.
It paved the way for a lot of following stuff.
The track is 10 years old for s sake- can you see some of this newer wank being held in the same reverence in 2014? not a chance.
Seminal track

for many of us that started listening to trance back in the day (mid 90's) this track was killer. it introduced us to the genre, and made us look forward to whats ahead. this may be one of the reasons why we hold this tune in high regard.

on the other hand, there's kids here (14/15/16/17/18/19...) that were still wearing diapers when this tune came out, and i really doubt they were listening to Children as it came out. These are the new kids on the block (pun intended) who got into trance a bit later, and didnt grow up with the classic tunes such as Children. Now, they hear all the remixes, and think those are great compared to the original. You guys didnt grow with the music - you stepped right into it at its peak.

Nope
Original surfaced on white in italy in 1994 and was officially released for the first time ( in italy on DBX records)in early 95- i make that 10 years.
Was then licensed to platipus in late 1995 and subsequently Deconstruction for a UK release in 1996.

Speaking of which - anyone know where I can find the video?

I had JUST begun to get into EDM when I first saw this video on MTV Amp(old show dedicated to EDM vidoes). Fell asleep with the TV on. Woke up at 3 in the morning to take a leak, and I heard the tune coming from the TV. Just sat there and stared. One of my favorite songs of all time. I agree with JM though - it indeed made one look forward to what was ahead.
