So currently I'm at UMass Amherst and honestly it blows chunks, hating all my classes, especially the ones in my major (compSci, i'm doing it cause its the only thing i'm good at, not cause i like it)
so anyways, i was wondering if anyone knew anything about good photography schools, especially anything about hallmark school of photography, since thats like 20 minutes from here |

are you a freshman? cause i would think no matter where you go freshman year your classes are going to suck.
my bf has a BFA in photography from syracuse. i think he liked it there. also i heard of a really excellent photography school down in southern california but i cant remember what it is called. |

yeah i'm a frosh
i've always been heavy on the math and computer classes all through grade school/high school, but i'm starting to realize that i was only good at those because they were geared towards people with much less of a computer oriented background
and now that i'm in classes with people with a similar background as me, i'm realizing that i've done this stuff in the past because i was good at it, and honestly i hate it
only reason i've done it in the past was because it was easy
and apparently 60% of the people that take compsci2 fail it
bleh
and the add/drop period ends tomorrow, so i have to decide quickly if i wanna stay in all these classes |

comp sci major
my classes seemed good at first, but man dude they all suck
i signed up for music 100 cause i wanted to get my feet wet in the music dept. and thought it'd be an easy A
well its going to be an easy A, but even when i'm hyper as hell it just puts me to sleep
today we learned what sharps and flats were, among other things
i was 1st in my class in high school in AP music theory
:(
man i suck at life |

music theory in my college was one of the hardest electives you could take. you are lucky.
i agree, i think comp sci is a ing boring major and a difficult job market. then again, you have to be very talented at networking to succeed in photography. youare lucky. you are a freshman and you go to a reputable school. in general, no matter what you decide to study, your first year classes will be similar, so look into a lot of things and figure out what you want to major in. talk to career services if you need to, or upperclassmen... you have a world of options.
by the way, you mentioned you are good at math, have you considered engineering? |

| Just go Undeclared your first year of college. Saves you the pressure of staying on track with something that you will probaly change anyway. |

yeah kinda too late for that
cause its already two weeks into the semester, so even if i go undeclared, i'm still in my calc and compsci classes
and i need can only drop one class and stay fulltime
i've considered engineering, never really had any appeal to me
and especially if i stay at umass, cause its fairly hard to get into the engineering school, they recommend you take at least two courses required for the major first semester to get a jump start if youre gonna pursue engineering
and i talked to a guy who's a junior and a comp sci major, he had the same teacher that i have now
he said that literally the only way to get through the class is sit through the elctures and dont take notes, just try to absorb as much you can, then go home with the textbook and actually learn the stuff on your own |

you'll find a lot of classes are like that. college isnt supposed to be easy. i say, suck it up, work hard and learn something. and if you like anything that you learn, major in it. |

lol... get used to it. they wouldnt teach if they didnt have to. their salary is funded by their research. most college professors dont give a damn about teaching, especially at a research driven school. you'll be lucky to find the ones who care. (ask around, people usually know who actually takes the effort to give a good class) |
