OK, I won't get into how we could have had Nu-NRG out here for Love Parade if only we could have come up with the money,
but now I find out Nu-NRG is booked at Sound-bar in Chicago (which is really a small place for a live trance pa) and it just makes me wonder why the we can't get them out in SF. (But Seattle, LA, and now Chicago does)...
oh maybe I can answer that question myself since, for example, more people show up for Bad Boy Bill than for both Armin Van Buuren & Markus Schultz!!!
Ugh I'm frustated. Thanks for hearing my vent. |

I think with AvB/MS getting fewer people, it's crowd control stuff...AvB/MS probably had sellout points since it sold a whole lot of presales (I know presales took it right near compacity) and once it was past that, no more people allowed...with BBB, I seriously doubt it sold many pre-order tickets so no hard sellout point was put into place...so they just let people continue to roll in.

Actually...the $30 cover charge at the door (it started at $25, went at least as high as $30, and maybe even higher later, but I don't know) - I know this for fact caused several people not to attend --granted those were probably individuals who were not absolutely determined to see AVB -- still it broke my heart to see 4 really cute girls decide not to go in! Heck they coulda been future TAs!!!
Anyways...back to the subject. I just really wish Nu-NRG would get booked here. For 2k+fees etc...I think spundae could recoup it.
But I guess I'll flying my ass down to LA to see 'em at Heaven and catch Blank & Jones at the Mayan the night before. Assuming I have the cash, that is. Also, I'm amazed at the amount of talent consistently being pulled into Chicago...Damn.

With NuNRG in SF, I've talked to many people...the issue is that there aren't a lot of hardcore peeps with a lot of knowledge of acts like nu nrg in this area...it would bring no crowd. The promoter would surely lose money! Oh, and I think Nu-NRG might be at Vision on oct 30th, not soundbar...could be wrong. I saw them at vision somewhere, mentioned it to someone at godskitchen and they didn't say that info was false at all. :-p
They are $2200 + flight, hotel, meals, etc ... remember they are more than one person, so that count would probably get upto $4,000 or $5,000 minimum. Promoters don't make any money off bar. And don't forget they also have their own staff to worry about! |

actually...question I've been wondering.
Let's say one promoter brings out talent for a particular date,
but then another promoter books them while they are in the same geographic region...like all of a sudden you see NuNRG getting booked in different US cities, but apparently different promoters.
Who gets stuck paying for their international flight, etc? (i.e. a huge chunk of their travel costs)? The first promoter who booked them? It would seem a little unfair. That's why I was thinking, heck they're already out here, is there a way to get them booked and not have to fork out as much fees for travel etc...
Anyuways, probably beating a dead horse here. I know it's all business.
So according to the Nu-NRG site, it says Sound-bar. Yeah Vision would make somewhat more sense since it's bigger. I really wish I could go...had lots of fun in Chicago when I visited for my first time this year!

For my last event that I promoted, I made over $5000 in ticket sales alone.... I had no headliner (well, except one DJ from power 106 which costed me $200)... My line was wrapped around the building the whole night. I started charging $10 until 10:30, $15 until 11, $20 untill 11:30 and $25 there after... i was surprised how many people were willing to spend $25 on a club with no headliner and no alcohol!!!! It was an all ages hip hop event!... We sold out, we had to turn away more than 300 people ... :( We did a survey after the party, and people said they didnt mind paying the extra money because it was well worth it!!!!!
I've been wanting to do an EDM event, the same way I did that one, but I'm afraid of losing money... And lets face it, the risk of losing money into an edm party is BIGGER!!!!!! The last time I really thought about doing it, I wanted to book Marco V. I contacted his agent and they told me he was $2000 plus flight, hotel, and expenses! :eyespop: I wonder how much he is now. |

I don't want to give a rhetorical solution... but hip-hop is MUCH bigger than trance.

Woody, all ages EDM events do very well from what I can tell...been to a few in LA and they've all been really packed....it sucked though, being on the floor with a bunch of 16-19 year olds :p
With MarcoV, $2000 for a top 15 DJ is a STEAL. Although, I did hear he was $3000 at one point quite awhile back.

Flight cost varies, but it usually goes by a method called "flight share," ... I think the promoters share the cost of the flight from Europe and back to Europe or something like that....
