i just got my new techs today and ive been settin them up but ive got a prob with one of the headshells - im not getting sound out the right channel. its not the tone-arm or the cart - i checked. i think its the red wire because everytime i touch it i get a REALLY loud hum comin from the speakers (and the right channel only). The other three wires seem fine. Anyone have any idea what this is? It sucks if its broken cos its brand new :(

You should definetly try a different headshell. You sure you don't got a spare? There should be one included with every deck.

I've had a similar problem too with a rather cheap headshell. It seemd the wires didn't connect too good with the contacts of the cart. I did solve it with a grip. I pressed the connections together with it and my problem was solved. That should solve the problem IF the problem is situated in the shell...

gutted, its a pain in the arse to actually replace the wire (if that is the problem). you have a choice to make:

1) check both ends and crimp them with a pair of snip-nose pliers (very carefully, you don't want to end up snapping the pins off).

2) ring the people you bought it off and tell them the headshell is ed. if they have any customer service skills they shouldn't have a problem sending you a new one out. they may want to look at it first though (to see if it's fixable), so if you plan to do this, don't get those pliers out because they will be able to see that you've crimped them and will blame the fault on you.

failing that, just buy a new headshell.

i rechecked everything and it turned out to be the ortofon cart (oops) so the headshell's ok. i phoned up decks.co.uk and they told me to send it and they will attempt to repair it or send me a new one :)

it still sucks though - now ill have to wait for it to come back before i can mix on my new techs :whip:
