Finally, the day that I have been waiting for since roughly 1992 is here. The release of the final book of Steven King's series The Dark Tower was today, and I just got home from a nice bike to the store to pick it up in it's beautiful hardcover form. The book seems to be 830 pages long (just looking to see the last page, I allmost saw the last line, O Discordia!), and details the end of Roland Deschain and his ka-tet's quest to reach the Dark Tower.

This series was actually started in the early 1980's, but I know of few people who have followed since the first few chapters of the first book (The Gunslinger) were published in a modest writers monthly. The series has swelled into a huge following, an online community whose size rivals TA's, a rewriting of the first book (which Ive never read), and the ultimate decision of King's not to publish anymore upon Book 7's release(i.e., this will be his last book, so he says). As I've said, this series details Roland's quest to the Dark Tower. Roland is a gunslinger (a type of melding between an Arthurian night and a Spaghetti Western Hero) and his quest is to get to the Dark Tower to identify the wrongs which are taking place throught out the multi-verse. Along the way, he travels between several world's including our own, and Steven King has deliberatly stated that this series intertwines with many of, if not all, of the books he has ever written. Several characters from other books makes apperances in the Dark Tower series, and Several DT character have appeared in one way or another in his other books (including those written as Bachman). This IS NOT Steven King horror, but rather an epic tale and seriesa that I believe will rival the greatest groups of books of all time (Dante's Inferno, Star Wars, The Lord of the Ring, The Chronicles of Narnia, etc [sorry if I left your favorite out]).

I cannot begin to put the emotions of anticipation and excitement I have felt for the coming of this book, and I am now on my way to read it. Anyone's posts on the DT world, Steven King, your favorite ka-tet, or anything else related are welcome here.

im going to have to pick up these books soon. Ive started reading book 1 about 10 times, but never finished it...something always seems to come up when i start reading it. Finally decided to wait until all the books have been written to get into them. (hate waiting for books to be released so i can continue/finish a story lol)

Stephen King is one of my favorite authors...really enjoy his style of writing. His short stories are my favorite. Hope something makes him decide to write more books after this one (although there are lots of books of his that i havent read that i want to, which will keep me busy for quite a while).

Well I know how you feel. Unfortunately I have at least two more years before the final book of The Wheel Of Time is released.

I love Stephen King, but i never got into his dark tower series. I just didn't like those as much as his over regular novels, like The Shining, etc...
