I don't know how many of you TAs like Green Day or this type of music in general, but I just picked up a copy of American Idiot, Green Day's latest release and I am so impressed!!!

Their sound has definetly matured but they still retain that Green Day sound reminiscent of "Dookie" <--- I'm sure many of you have that album. :D (I have it on vinyl!)

In any case, the LP is much more than their current single "American Idiot", there are a lot more ballads (if I may use that term) with regards to their compositions. There is a good blend of acoustic & electric guitar throughout the album too.

I just read another review and it describes this album as a "Rock Opera"... The songs fit together literally and ideologically, something that's very interesting. It's like a story that is unfolding... :)

Now my next challenge is to get a ticket off a scalper for their show this Friday at the Phoenix... They sold out in less than 5 minutes!! WTF?! :whip:

i hope you're right about their sound maturing. I dislike the repetativeness of punk a lot, but I'll check this out on your recommendation ;)

I don't know Chinaman ... I played it there other day didn't feel it at all.

I listen to Dookie & Kurplunk 5 x a week in the car.

Ok, so I've listened to the album like 4 times now. I must say, it's certainly different from their previous releases. Even Nimrod, considered to be their "mature" record, American Idiot is mature in a different way.

As I said before, when you listen to everything, there is a definite story behind the song & lyrics. Numerous references are made in the tracks to previous ones. It's kind of like listening to the score of Les Miserables, you have your ballads and slower tunes but also more upbeat march-tempo songs (heavy on the triplets for all you trained musicians).

There is a great deal more harmony in the songs too. If anything, I'd say the title track, "American Idiot", is the most disconnected from the other 12 tracks.

There's even a reference to TORONTO in one of their songs (I guess because it rhymes with CHICAGO?) ;)

Oh well, now it's time to figure out the songs on guitar :D

And John, a frosty brew to you for listening to Kerplunk! As Billie Joe said at the Pop Disaster Tour last year at the Amphitheatre, "This song is for all the old-school Green Day fans" as he immediately breaks into 2000 Light Years Away

I REALLY wanna see Green Day in a small venue, I think that alone would be worth the astronomical price :D

Perrin - I dont appretiate you posting mainstream stuff like this in the TOTA Forum. Next thing you know, when i go to Guv or Viva, ill hear American Idiot instead of Satisfaction!! THAT CANT HAPPEN. I WONT LET THAT HAPPEN.
