Sometimes I feel as though I weren't meant to DJ. Anyone else felt like that?
Story.
I met this dude who owned maybe 20 vinyl and had purchase a belt driven stanton in a box kit. Comes with 2 decks, phones, needle, speakers, mats, mixer, you know the drill. Well I learned how to match in a week, and learned I loved this but I couldn't afford tables at the time. I would finally purchase my own a year later. Here's where it all goes downhill...
I decided to go online and purchase the new (at the time they were) vestax PDX-2000's $350 each what a bargain. But guess what happens? Sept. 11th does. My gets delayed. Then on top of that once it reached destination UPS couldn't find my house and dropped it off at a random dudes house who shares the same ing name. Of course I try to get them from him but he says he threw em away. I get police involved but they can't do so I had to call company and have them do a UPS claim. This would take 6 months to go through and an additional 1 month for my tables to finally arrive.
Fed up with internet and UPS i would purchase the rest of the set up from guitar center. Where i baught a Korg Kaoss K2, odysey case, and G2 eon monitor.
My first real gig at a rave where I am on mainstage at 11:00 is Texas's record breaking rain day. Everything electronic gets wet and ed up 2 minutes into my set. Only plus side is I still got paid.
I move to tampa FL. One of the kids in my neighbor hood who saw my gear decides its hunky dory to break in and steal my weed. He attemps to steal monitor but i guess something happened and he just dropped it and left. Now its scratched to .
I move to washington I'm movingin in. In TX we have central heating and AC. I didn't kno that in WA we don't have that and that the little brown strip on the wall at the bottom was the heater. I w/o thinking place my vinyl propped against the wall on the damn heater. I would be a month b4 i meet someone with decks.(i left mine in TX). As i try to spin lo and behold everything single piece in my collection was melted beyond repair. 2 were repairable about 15 were fine. (since the stacks were so big and they were on the outside)
This summer I go to Europe all my gets stolen. My music and my phones.
Come back to TX this time to ship my decks up to WA. I get to WA and my decks arrive a week later. They are busted up to . Lookes like they got the package and dropped it off a 20 foot ledge. I have to file insurence claim.
Meanwhile I purchase new headphones, until claim is processesed. Guess what? they break after only 3 days of use. go figure.
This has all got me thinking maybe i wasn't meant do dj. |
