ok, well the credit report thread just reminded me of how ty this company is...
anyway, so i went to europe for a couple months, and before i left all i had was my trusty mastercard and my pc bank account...so i found out that the pc account doesn't really work overseas cause its interac (and not visaplus or cirrus like most bank accounts).
so i call mastercard and i ask them how much an atm withdrawal will cost me 3 US (on top of their regular policy of charging daily interest on the money starting with the day you take it out), and i decided that i would be fine with that, and would keep a credit instead of a balance on my mastercard (my mommy was nice enough to transfer the money for me from my bank account)...
i come back and i find out that they were charging me 7.50 cdn for every single withdrawal...i paid 105 cdn for my withdrawals in june and july alone...
so i call and the customer service rep tells me that there's no way they would have told me they charge in US funds cause i was using a canadian version of the card, and that i should have ALL the fine print before i signed up and and that he would have done so if he had been in my place...thanks buddy...
anyway so the point of the story is that mastercard is e and that visa is the lesser of two evils...
sorry about the RANT...and dont use mc in europe unless its between life and death!!! |

Make sure you read the card agreement before you apply for any card which includes withdrawal fees and other fine print on the agreement, that is your own fault not theirs.
Majority companies charge is US$ conversion whenever you places charges in foriegn currency that is the ty part about living in canada.:D
Well i am happy with my american express and visa although i just paying it all off, woohoo, till nov, finally outta debt very shortly and that new car i have been waiting for.:happy2: |

well it's not like she didn't know money was going to be coming off her card. they told her how much over the phone and then they double the charge, how is that fair? |

Who goes to another country without triple checking their funding?
Cut your loses, at best you've learned a pricy lesson. It could of been worse. |

Yeah, read the agreement... it gives you all the costs associated with using the damn card.
And good old RBC VISA charges "only" $5 for overseas withdrawals... ;) |

| I'm in a Customer Service position with a Bell affiliate. When we fall back on the old Customer Service Agreement line, it's a total cop out. Like Stereoprincess said, One thing was said, while something different was done. I think that if a CSR tells someone something the company needs to stand behind it. It's really too bad that this had to happen. |

| It appears you got the $3US charge as well as the extra charge for using the ATM network (Cirus/Plus). Maybe they didn't tell you about the Plus/Cirus charge, but in reality, they don't really need to because well, it applies to everyone who uses it, whether you use a mastercard or a TD bank card. It costs $3.00CDN just to use your regular bank card in the US, $7 for a cash advance on a credit card overseas seems very reasonable, you don't have much to complain about. |
