Now we all remember Sasha's proclamation.. and more recently Dave Clarke.. Just curious who else is doing this?
This was posted by Max Graham on an Ottawa board promoting his monthly night @ Helsinki..
"another night of madness coming up...and i have the friday off if you know what i mean...
oh and i didn't lose my records last time, im all cd these days. makes so much more sense for a touring dj like myself..."
when asked if this saves him from carrying backbreaking vinyl he responds..
"theres so many reasons...yeah im bringing my own 1000, can't handle those 100's ...such toy's "
Now I'm not all that interested in debating the pros & cons.. there is the argument that buying mp3's gives more back to the actual artist, yadayada.. but ya.. what other djs have been ConverteD to CD? |

Jonh '00' Fleming has converted to CD. Armin van Buuren and Ferry Corsten are about 90% CD.
It makes sense for the touring DJ, since they hardly ever paid for tracks to begin with. And obviously you dont need to worry about losing your tracks, you can just re-burn them.
For a local DJ from NA, its still better. If you happen to have a gig coming up and one of your favourite tunes was just released, you can simply purchase it and download it from an mp3 site for a couple bucks and you can play it that night. You dont have to order it, wait 2-3 weeks, and pay $15-20 after taxes and shipping. And also, some labels are not pressing some tracks to vinyl. The only way to get them is to buy the mp3. Some people say the sound quality is not as good, but its barely noticeable. Most sites offer a 320kbps bitrate on files.
And if you like an unsigned amateur production that someone posts here in the production section, you can just download it and burn it. It might never get signed, but you can still play it. |

no way dude.. fed ex! :tongue3
Order into Juno in the AM, records in my hand at 3 pm the next day.. I tried the snail mail thing.. but the anticipation is enough to kill me.. hehe
But anyway.. I do understand the arguments on both sides.. one thing I will point out, which doesn't matter to 95% of the patrons since they aren't paying attention anyway... is that there is a certain excitement with taking out a record and cueing it up on the deck, which, in my opinion.. is in no way duplicated with pulling out some cd and inserting it into a cdj.
In that case he may as well play a mixed cd and no one would practically be the wiser.
on another note.. Final Scratch 2 looks dope.. check it!
Final Scratch 2

| How will it save space to brings cds but then lug around 2 cdj 1000s with you? I know most big clubs have em, but some of the smaller ones don't |

hahaha.. ya.. kind of ironic. ;)
Anyway.. I'm sure Max *usually* plays in clubs that do carry them.. so I am just assuming in this case it's for 'the so many other reasons' he prefers cds.. |

| DJs shouldnt have to carry around 1000s. If its in their rider, then its up to the club to provide them. Renting a pair of 1000s for a night for an international DJ is pennies considering how many people will be out to see him. |
