Ok. Who plays hard trance that is accepted across the board? Hard Trance is, generally speaking, a cheesy genre. There are good tracks, hell I play some hard trance, but it's hard for me to think of a real popular dj that plays all hard trance and is still good imo. |

usually when I find mixes and tracks cheesy or boring I don't listen to them. I go out and find ones I like.

ah, see, even you say hard trance is cheesy. just like real trance, hard trance has evolved and vespa 63, scot project, flutlicht, natron, shokk, kai tracid are the obvious ones to come to mind. but i would agree if people called them "mainstream" and "cheesy".
but what can we do, hard trance HAS become more mainstream, just like the "trance of 99" has evolved in both accessibility and sound.
it's hard for me to think of ANY dj who plays his/her genre and is good. it's all relative and subject to listener's taste
so some people say all of today's trance is boring and cheese and that "old-school" trance is the real trance
similarly, hard trance fans bash today's hard trance and praise "old-school" trance which is, essentially, more hardstyle then hardtrance
to be honest, i don't know that much in depth about hard trance, just like i don't know everything about another particular genre / subgenre. i listen to everyone and everything, if i like it. |

Agreed. I listen to dj's, not styles. A friend of mine gave me a trance disc that is fairly epic recently and I really liked it. It is programmed well and isn't all epic trance. Also, the epic trance is good, not over the top or cheesy, IMO. Someone else might listen to it and hate it though. It's all taste. I just thought it was weird that someone said listen to hard trance as opposed to progressive trance, if you want more variety. I would say listen to hard trance if you like it, not that it changes more. |

| I never said that it has changed much, if any. I said there is good epic trance and bad epic trance. I love good epic trance, and I want to puke when I hear bad epic trance. |

the person who told you to listen to hard trance as opposed to progressive trance for variety was not only implying that progressive is monotonous, i think they were also implying that it's boring and all tunes sound the same.
when i listen to music i don't burden myself with thing like "what genre is this????". sometimes it's useful to do the general "oh it's breakbeat, i want to hear more of similar stuff" but being overly concerned whether something is cheese and sounds the same as something else, that's not my cup of tea. if i like it, who cares if it's cheesy hard trance of something else.
