PVD @ Mayan 9/23 Thoughts

Well I'm tired as heck but I had a pretty good time :D

Probably the most dancing I've ever done sober. That's saying a lot since I tire easily. :p

I have to say I probably enjoyed Bonham's set more than PVD...
Bonham played a wicked set - I'm really liking this guy. His set was full of energy but he varied it nicely. Mixing was smooth as butter - impeccable. He played a lot of fresh tracks that I've never heard but are totally danceable. He also dropped a few 80s remixes too - WICKED!! A Tears for Fears remix as well as remix of Bangles - Walk Like An Egyptian.
Last year when Bonham opened for PVD as well, he played another kickingly sick set - although last night he played for about two hours as someone else warmed up before him (who was that guy? Wasn't very good I'm afraid :( )

Now on to PVD... played an exceptionally banging set. Quite surprised as it did not sound like *any* broadcasted liveset I've heard from 2004 so far. Banging almost to the point of techno. Very few tunes with a significant melodic base. Just bang...boom...bang...boom. Not that I'm complaining mind you :)
Only tracks I can remember (and know the names of) - PVD played Randy Katana - In Silence (Txitxarro Mix) followed by Sam Sharp - Deep. PVD was quite animated last night, nodding to tunes and stuff. Seems like he actually enjoyed the night. More than his usual stoic German robotic self, lol.

I really like the Mayan now. Much improved, got a great vibe, laser show, etc. Only thing was the speakers were too loud IMO. I'm pretty sure I got some hearing damage last night! Should've gotten some earplugs...

My friends and I left around 2:30... dunno when PVD finished his set. I'm assuming sometime between 3 and 3:30...
No Summer Dream or Love Simulator though... bummer. Was really really wanting to hear Love Simulator... :(

dont remember alot of the songs he played but here are the ones i remember :

some new remix of for an angel
buenaventura
the spell
that's life
active sight - out of our lives (pvd remix)
duende (signum remix)
josh gabriel - alive (pvd rework/remix?)
Marc van Linden & Matys - am 2 pm (not too sure bout this one)
Robert Gitelman - Children Of The Sun
DragonReborn
That night was f'n hardcore!!

The opener was great, and PVD was great as well.

I haven't seen PVD before, but after last night, and the whole experience, I can say he is #1 on my list.

Blows my mind!

Wow...

This was a pretty incredible night. I flew in from Seattle, and arrived at 9PM, and shortly thereafter headed to downtown LA.

I was not, in the least, expecting PvD to play from 1AM to 4AM, a 3 hour set in LA on a Thursday. Man am I tired!

This was quite the set from PvD-- I've seen him a few times over the summer, and he's played most of the same tracks, certainly not in the same order, and throwing in here and there, new music.

Last night, I can honestly say, for his first hour, I'm not sure I recognized a single tune-- the whole set was great in my opinion.

A very cool remix of For an Angel played last night... in addition to the tracks mentioned above in the thread, I also recognized Cosmic Gate - Bilingual.

My ears are ringing too loudly right now for me to remember the other tracks I recognized... so if I can I'll post again later.

This is 1 of 4 PvD shows I have set in the next 40 days... see some of you in San Diego tonight? :)

All I gotta say, once he began playing techno, !!!! I went insane!!!! He played like 30-45 min worth towards the middle (right after 2:30).... !!!!! I was screaming TECHNO TECHNO TECHNO!!!! hehehehehe Once PVD took over, I didnt stop dancing until it was over @ 4pm!!!! What's up with the club cutting the sound on him? hehehehehehe :haha: :haha: I remember being right below him and he kept on yelling NO BASS, NO BASS... I do agree, the last 15 min where like whatevers... I was too tired of jumping, screaming, and dancing my ass off by then... But I stuck till the end! hehehe

The two songs stuck to my head..... MURDER WAS THE BASS and THE WHITE ROOM... !!!! Oh yeah, and that new remix of FOR AN ANGEL....

I don't like Jerry... That's why I showed up at 12 cuz I knew Jerry was going to be like whatevers...

And, was it just me, or did the Mayan didn't look SOLD OUT Packed!!!! For the first time in a long time there was dancing room!!!!! YAY!!!! Oh and THE SCALPERS!!! Too many outside!

Yeah I think cause PVD sold out last year *a lot* of ppl bought extra tix. LOTS of people trying to get rid of their tickets, including a friend of mine...

I'm wondering if Armin playing so recently to PVD that a lot of ppl who would've gone to PVD went instead to Armin... I actually was going to bail since I was tired from the Armin weekend already but a few of my friends were going so being the lemming I am I went too. Glad I did. :D

Thanks for the comment, rudeBoy. It was a pretty good night. Maybe one day PVD will actually play on a SATURDAY in Los Angeles. Or maybe not.

Thursday... geez I'm too old for Thursdays, lol...

BTW did anyone watch Intellect? It's a dvd documentary on DJs and EDM. But mostly on EDM DJs. :toothless Anyway, it's got a short interview with Bonham. Man, that guys is fookin HUGE!!! You'd mistake him for the doorman, not the DJ! Those arms look like they can break a turntable in two... not just vinyl records, haha!! But he seemed like a really nice guy in the interview, and he only uses the pitch slider to make adjustments (never touches the record other than cueing, nice!). He said he's known for his seamless mixing - which I will vehemently concur! And one last note from that interview: he loves being a warmup DJ. Very cool...

That was definitely not one of his better sets in my opinion, although I was pleasantly surprised to hear a new remix of for an angel. His style always seems so different in LA. When he started banging techno, thats when I bailed.
DEPESH
Set was nice but hard. Anyone remember the name of the first track he played? I heard him Aug19th in Ibiza, and it was out of control. He needs to spinn like that in LA.

Urgh, I'm too lazy to drive down... I'll wait until Monster Massive, instead.
