As awsome as 54 was the clubs that lead the way for both music and sound systems had to be paradise garage , the saint and trocadero
the original richard long big bertha sound system which led to the evolution of steve dash's phazon (examples today of these systems are Guv and Stereo)The saint was the originator of sophisticated lighting and although these were considered gayclubs , they are the ones that are mentioned all the time by the big names in house music as being the birth place of the sound
(yes technically the warehouse in Chicago is the original house club)

these links tell a lot of the story
http://music.hyperreal.org/library/...y_of_house.html

http://www.discomusic.com/

http://www.jahsonic.com/House.html

anyway I don't profess to know everything about back then , but I do know that 54 was more of a place to be seen than to really be there for the music

That movie made me want to go to that club, no matter what kind of music was playing!

The movie was filmed at cinespace here in T.O with Christie lights being responsible for trying to recreate lighting effects that no longer exist by using modern intelligent lights concealed so that it wasn't to obvious

Most TAs I find usually complain about such restrictions on this board.

i don't know why TAs complain about dress code all the time.

it's quite rediculous. put some pride in the way you look.

in regards to dress at studio 54, everything went, it just had to be stylish. man fashion trends on the runway were started at studio 54 during that time because all the fashion designers were going there.

I don't think it's necissarily the dress code people take issue with. It's the attitude that comes with the clientele in such a place.

Hmmmm no I specifically saw posts...and actually know some people who hate the idea of a dress code.

I agree with StereoPrincess though...besides it's nice to dress up once in a while :D
Jayx1
Well i hate dress codes. The coolest clubs dont make you conform. They draw clientele with imagination who come up with their own brand of what is "cool"
Nemireck
Dress codes aren't so bad, if people only want to be around other people who are dressed the same as them, all the more power to them. I don't, I like seeing people show up in their own style. Being comfortable and having a good time while grooving to some amazing music is much more important than hanging around a bunch of snobs conforming to a dress-code.

and that is exactly what studio 54 was.

I walked by Studio 54 on my way to get some dinner tonight... its only about a 5 minute walk away. Kinda interesting... its now a theatre but it retained the same Studio 54 name.

I wonder if crowding was a problem there?

PS. This all stems from the watching of "Behind the music: Sudio 54."

(edited for clarity in the subject)

Actually, I got into the electronic music because of Studio 54 and their legengary music CDs. Back in 1977, in NYC, two guys opened the most successfull nightclub in the history, spinning amazing disco sets. Heck, that place has been visited by millions and millions of people around the world, many well-known would-be disco DJ's started off from that vibe. Like the legendary Larry Levan :eyes: :eyespop: .

Yes, I wanna go there, but I dont think I could. I love disco. BTW, they had SOME AMAZING crowds there. I am not sure, however, if its open nowadays ...
