I was in Ibiza a couple of weeks ago and I am looking for the funky house tracks that they played everywhere. What were some of the biggest tracks and who are some djs I should look into? I listen to tons of trance, but I want to check out some of the funky house tunes that were so good there. I heard many of the songs a couple of times. Any one have suggestions/recommendations?

people's definition of funky house differs
i wouldnt actually say any of the tunes on there are funky house
for me funky house involves hed kandi cds and saxophone-led stuff
i really couldnt help you there, but I think ITWT has hit the nail on the head when it comes to the HOUSE tunes that got played in ibiza, i havent been but all the reports mention those |

Antoine Clamaran - Tropical Sax (Original Mix)
This is a combination of tribal and funk.
Most Eric Prydz tracks have a level of funk to them. Check out: Eric Prydz - Call On Me (Eric Prydz vs. Retarded Funk Mix)
Dave Armstrong has some nice groovy funk to his productions. Steve Angello makes some nice stuff as well.

This funny kind of house is called here "Balearic House"...
If I were you I'd download some sessions from Amnesia on Saturdays (People from Ibiza parties, with Dj's Mar-T, César de melero etc).
"Hed Kandy Summer Mix 2004" is great as you have already said, but you could also look for this new cd: "In bed with Space, Ibiza 2004", mixed by Jonathan Ulysses... It has to be very very good, since "In bed with Space" party is one of the best in this style of music...
Another good Dj's who play this kind of house are Barbara Tucker,Jay C, Tania Vulcano (resident of Dc10 and exceptional Dj) etc, so look for them! ;) |
