In case you missed what was happening: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...light=clearview

I sent the letter, and today, there was a message from the mayor of Clearview on my voice mail. She's looking to discuss this matter.

Just curious if anyone has heard anything else about the situation with the fines AND if there any views you want expressed in this conversation (please keep it mature...)

Good work mate!

I hear you got a chance to speak in front of the council - amazing!

I'd email the editors of the local papers and news media to let them know you're going there explain why WEMF is good for the community and that there is SIGNIFICANT support for such an event.

not so fast! I need to confirm! I haven't talked to the mayor directly yet, all I have is a series of messages.

That whole thing with the Elvis festival is a good point to bring up. Maybe you can make recommendations about actually testing the volumes. We all know the inverse square law of amplitude/distance, and we all know what noise levels are considered acceptable and what aren't. I think that if somebody actually went to the nearest residential area with a meter and measured volumes, then they could be turned down to the proper level. If a bit of effort actually went into keeping noise down, then this problem wouldn't have occurred. Make some honest, solid, recommendations and you will be respected.

Pettiscool
when you double the distance you lose 3 d/b

Sound expands like a giant sphere from the source. As this sphere grows bigger, the area the sound has to cover increases. The surface area of a sphere is proportional to the square of its radius, so if the distance is doubled, the area over which the sound is heard quadruples, and thus amplitude drops by a factor of 4. A decibel is 10 times the log (base 10) of change in amplitude... log[10](1/4) is about -0.602... so there is a decrease of about 6.02 dB when you double the distance.

This of course assumes all sound is dispersed evenly, no reflections, etc. I'd like to know how Pettiscool came up with 3dB.
