I think it is sometimes the DJ's that aren't playing enough variety, however sometimes it isn't their fault as promoters etc often tell DJ's what they have to play.
I have heard a few DJ's that play the same stuff over and over and only change a few tracks every time :o

Very true... vinylgroover came over and played binary finary 1999 after for an angel after gouryella after strange world etc, list goes on, and it was like sheesh.. enough! its like dj's can try a little too hard and force euphoria and energy into the face of the crowd when what we want sometimes is just to be taken on the journey.

its so refreshing when Armin throws in tracks like Katana-One Solid Wave and Portishead-Roads (Sultan&Greek Mix) just to mix it up a bit. ask me last year and i never would have thought i'd say this, but there are prog songs whcih i find just amazing, and the Leama&Moor remix of Crayons comes to mind, and Ilana-505(Infernal Machine Mix). [edit] plus most trax from Probspot and Incolumis, with their unique blending of styles. i am SICK of the alphazone style (not necessarily alphazone themselves cos Nebulus was awesome, but more all the copycats recently) how many variations to the same "big riff" structure can be made?!

having said that, there are definitely still great uplifting tunes coming out.. just when u think there are no other melodies that can be used, along come inexplicably beautiful tunes like EnMass-CQ, and there's been too many lately to even mention, from the more understated tunes to the mindblowers like Sundawner-Flakes and Vascotia-Calibro(Sonicvibe Mix)

trance isnt dying, it is evolving and spreading into other sounds... i actually listen to *some* stuff from 99/2000 and think thank god trance has evolved from that.. its become so much fuller and more diverse.

Psygnosis
You may find it boring or stale cause your listening to uplifting trance hammered by the by everyone yet the artist keeps producing the same over and over cause they know people are gullible to some extent that they will kiss their ass and say they love it...

Go and listen to trance that isn't raped by the greats or anyone cause they can't be bothered to research the scene a bit, and find out that the new artists provide more quality that PVD, Ferry, Armin combined!!!

Aura - Intercity
Activa - Broken Morning
Enmass - CQ
Reinstate - Moonlit
Store 'N' Forward - Mauritius
Store 'N' Forward - Cause its Autumn
Sunquest - Just Another Day

little list, but it's song that have yet to be discovered or yet to be raped by Armin.. if you don't like these, you don't like trance. Cause uplifting trance is not dead, it's just people kiss the wrong ass just a bit too much resulting in "big head" outcomes.. resulting in the same over and over..

end rant..

yeah all those are nice, tho Enmass-CQ has been caned a bit by armin.. he's put it on his new Universal Religion compilation :p still an awesome song tho.

Sunquest-Summertimes and Sunquest-Solid Flow could even be better than Just Another Day, talented artist

there's plenty of decent tracks being produced, just a lot more crap than in the past so you have to look a little harder. I think the biggest problem with trance is the number of average dj's playing in clubs who can't play a set that really goes somewhere, and can't play something suitable for the timeslot they're given. they can mix smoothly but just cannot design a decent set.
walking into a club at midnight to hear anthems being belted out doesn't leave much room for the night to progress. Hearing yoshi play hardhouse crap, then jumping jack try to rescue the night, then benjamin bates play tech-house, then marco v play a bit of everything, there's no flow in a night like that.
A lot of people rated tiestos NYE set pretty highly, plenty of anthems but the whole set had some direction, not just get it as euphoric as possible to start with and then plod along at that same level.
