how important is the ability to change the tempo without changing the pitch???

i was looking at turntables numark tt200 and stanton str8-80

the str8-80 can do this feature, but the numarks are a bit cheaper and don't do this...i was wondering for a dj who plays trance/techno/house with a little hip hop, how big of a deal this feature is to you???

also, don't get into a buy technics 1200's plz. i've done my research and have my budget...so i'm trying to get the best for my money...

Not very important.

Technics IS best for your money. Or Stanton ST/Str8-150. Solid decks, if you wanna be different.

I <3 Vestax PDX
(even though it looks bad)

I have TTX1's which have this feature(key lock) and I never used it. I've played around with it a few times and it seems to make the bass drum sound chopped up(this might be only in trance, and it might be different in a genre where the bass drum isn't as "clicky", such as breaks or hip hop). I have heard that the TT-200's are good decks for their price though, so if I was on a limited budget I'd probably go for them.

no turntable i've seen has ever had this function work properly. it's sort of making analog try to act digital. the only good key lock/master tempo/bla bla feature i've seen comes in Pioneer CDJ-800s/1000s. in turntables, it normally just makes things sound choppy.

its very hard to make analogue sound do digital things, which is why its always crap..

i think the best deck for the money at the moment is the vestax pdx2000. since the mk2 pro came out they have dropped in price quite a lot and are now under £300 each! they are fantastic decks (i am the proud owner of a pair) and i love using them more than any technics deck i have used, and i have used them all. they are very well built, and you will find it hard to make them skip at all. also, the ultrapitch is the best of its kind on the market, allowing +/-10% accuracy, even when the ultrapitch is at +50%. other decks have to be either +/-10%, 25% 50% etc etc and just don't have the pitch fader accuracy to make it useful.

straight arms though, so make sure you get decent carts ;)

It's not important, and as Tu face said it never works properly.

Just learn the key/pitch of your records and you don't need this function. It's just a gimmick to sell a not so special deck.

Technics or Vestax decks are good. I prefer Technics but it's a question of taste. Although I will always defend Vestax products as they do make good stuff even if it's more geared towards the turntablist industry on the whole.

Cheers

i also like technics decks, there is just a couple of snots i dont like about it, and begrudge paying so much for what i think is a not-as-good-as-the-vestax-which-is-£100-less deck ;)

People usually get them used. 10 year old Technics TT is as good as new one.

You don't need anything more than +/-8%. What, are you planning to mix trance with happy hardcore? lol

no i use my 10% pitch ablity a lot... mixing 4 Strings - Into The Night [Take me Away] (Gabriel & Dresden 6 Deep Dubmix) with like Pulser - My Religion... the Gabriel & Dresden mix is very very slow... and i usually spinn at about 143 or so its not at 10% but its up there its about a little past 8% but if i didnt have 8% i would have to either 1) keep speeding it up with my figer of slow down the other track :toothless
