I wonder that myself. People tend to think that celeron processors are and that they shouldn't get one. But there's nothing wrong with them. If you get a 2-3GHZ processor thats either P4 or celeron you don't notice any difference. I've had a celeron 733 for about 3 years and its fine. |

well actually, europe gets their laptops cheaper than here in the us, because import taxes are like way cheaper than here.
damn import taxes. that's why import cds at the records stores are sometimes $30!
oh well. but i think they can get a top notch computer for like 30% less than what we get here. |
you'd be amazed at the fact that sometimes import cds here can be cheaper then when purchased in the original country.
Now in regards to the LAPTOP people are forgetting an important fact .... computers are MUCH MORE expensive in the UK...
1000 Quid / 1800 dollars will get you a lot in the usa
but it will also get you a little in the uk... |

there's plenty of good deals out there for around £1000 but it depends if he'll compromise on the spec.
For example
HP Compaq Notebook:
OS: Windows XP Pro
Intel Pentium 4 HT 3GHZ Processor
Cache: 512MB
RAM: 512MB
HDD: 40GB @ 4200rpm
DVD & CDRW Drive
ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 Video Card
15" Screen
56K Modem
10/100 Network Card
And all for the tidy price of £799 + VAT. :) |
interesting. Compaq was one of the brands i hadnt checked yet, tho it was on my hitlist.
I think hes from the thought that because celerons used to be , they prob still are.
thanks for the current help, if anyone else wants to add input feel free. |

| Are you looking at Centrino's as well? |

yes.
a question tho. why does the CPU have to be different to enable mobile wireless internet? |

the key to centrino was to try and integrate everything together to make it more marketable in the newer wifi market
There's also the fact that Centrino's run on lower voltage = long battery lifetime! |

It doesn't have to be different. They're just selling it as a package: integrated wireless + better CPU. |
