i know most of you don't like the dj in a box package, but i've been researching for cheap tables that look good...and i found them in this package by stanton, ppl have also been saying good words about it and its affordable

it includes

SMX-251 3-channel DJ mixer
2 STR8-80 digital-equipped turntables
2 Stanton 5620SK cartridges on headshells
DJ Pro 80 headphones

what you think for $699US...(for someone who can't afford technics...ok...geez :whip: lol)

they are decent and will get you started, BUT, prepare to spend out MORE money, because you WILL want to upgrade.. the resale value on that pack is not that great. I say raise some more money and go all out atleast with the tables, and maybe get a cheaper mixer.. IMO of course :)

I wouldn't do it for mixing, because ASTS arms technically only give you disadvantages above advantages for mixing (but beware, there are a lot of people on this forum that don't agree with me).

If you're looking for a decent mixer: Gemini PS-626i all the way. It's the best budget mixer I've seen yet, very low defect rate as well.

There are several budget turntables, my no.1 choice is the JB-Systems T-3 / Reloop RTX 5.5 (same turntables, different brand). A Reloop RP-4000 is a good bet too, although I like the RTX more.

When it comes to headphones, the Stanton DJ-2000 is in my opinion the best budget headphone.

We're talking about a BUDGET set (for ppl that can't afford Technics like you said ;)) that will keep you going for at least 2 years.

Well the str8-80s wern't that bad when i had one many years ago. The only problem was it sometimes switched itself in reverse at random times and you would have to shut it off than on again. The 520sk is ok as a budget cart, however the mixer included in the package will just downright suck... What are you talking about? not enough $ for techs?! Just get a used pair and a new tascam xs-8, then you'll be set on a solid setup.

It sometimes switches to reverse??? OMG! I wouldn't touch a tt like that with a 20 foot pole... imagine if you were recording a set!

what makes the mixer suck from other mixers...i am uneducated on stats to look for in a mixer...i seriously don't know what the difference between that mixer and a more expensive one is...can you tell me what problems i'd have with the mixer in this set?

Well, ty mixers tend to die, sound like crap, have really bad faders, have poor eqs, produce lots of line noise, have lack of usable features, and will tend to piss you off.

BTW, all of the stanton mixers i've owned (with the exception of the sk-four) have had serious problems. I even had a week old "high end" smx-501 that crapped out on me a week after i purchased it.
