One thing i didnt include in the poll that is really bad is what I call "phantom brakeing". People brake as if something is in front of them when nothing is there. Some people do it constantly. LEARN HOW TO DRIVE!!!!
As for driving in the left lane.... I wish the cops would enforce that like in Europe. Drivers here have no discipline and many times force you to pass on the right. Not only that, but they actually get offended when you flash your highbeams as a reminder to get out of the way.
On the flip side, people who flash their beams when you are clearly passing someone should be shot. Just because you are not going the speed of their choice doesnnt mean you dont belong in the passing lane when passing ;) |

i hate when ppl drive like 40km+ faster than regular traffic in left lane and expect you to move when they come behind u..lol off theres about 100 cars in front of me its RUSH HOUR, if i move outta the way its not gonna help u so get off my ass
^^pisses me off most, i dont care how fast they drive if theres no one if front of me, then ill let htem pass, but if its serious traffic whats the point? |

Actually it's more of an Ontario thing specifically. Also, I know I'm gonna get flamed for this but 90% of the time I see this happen (and I've seen it happen VERY OFTEN since I'm on the highway a lot) it's a woman. Which leads me to believe that they're actually not doing it to deliberately piss me off, but rather what Malek said, that they're just militantly unaware of their speed, their surroundings, and the road conditions. But in a way, that's even more infuriating, because it's scary to think that there are so many fully-licensed drivers who are absolutely clueless.
People left out one thing though, and this is one of the worst for highway drivers (although it can happen on the road too):
Idiots who refuse to merge/change lanes at the speed of traffic.
I'm no traffic engineer but I'd have to believe that this is the #1 cause of accidents which get blamed on "speeders" instead. It's bad enough on a 2-lane city road, where the dork who cuts you off is only going about 5-10 km/h slower, but on highways people seem to think it's okay to merge at speeds in excess of 40 km/h slower than traffic flow! Even better is when I'm behind one of these people trying to merge myself, knowing that the cutoff is less than 100 meters away but being UNABLE to speed up because there's no space between me and the dumbass who is about to merge at 60. It's not an easy maneuver in a Corolla when even if I floor it I know it's going to take 5 seconds to kick it up to 100.
Not only are these people bound to cause a serious accident, but they're almost always the ones responsible for huge bottlenecks due to the on-ramps being clogged up. Ever try to get on the 401 from the 400 in rush hour? Who do you think is responsible for that mess!? And often these are also the SAME people who don't signal, hog the left lane, and drive way under the speed limit.

| People driving slowly in the left lane haven't been a problem since i discovered the magical combination of high breams + left turn signal + honking. With that said, people who speed up when you try to pass them don't deserve to live. Especially if they slow right back down again after! |

You better not ever do that behind me, otherwise you're going to find your car scrunched up and embedded into my rear bumper, and the police and insurance companies will say it was YOUR fault.
I never drive slow in the left lane, but with some people anything slower than 180 is too slow. I hate obnoxious tailgaters almost as much as lane hogs.
And FYI, don't honk at me while I'm waiting to make a left turn either. I may have a new car but that doesn't mean I'm afraid to throw it in reverse on a busy street. |

My personal traffic ettiqutte:
When passing in the left I always leave safe room between me and the car in front of me if the car is passing another car. If the car is hanging in the left lane while the right lane is wide open, only then do i apply the highbeam and left signal techniques. Usually when that doesn't work and I end up having to make an illegal pass to the right. While doing this I make sure to shoot the dirtiest look possible to the ignorant driver who is usually too clueless to even see you anyways.
Its one thing for people to agressively try to move you out of the left lane when you are passing. It's another when they actually deserve it. |
