anybody have this on your computer? For those who don't know it's some program that runs as a screensaver and analyzes information received by some uber telescope in Puerto Rico.

SETI stands for the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence. It's a pretty cool screen saver nonetheless, and if u track an alien you can be co disoverer.

check it out:

yeah I heard something about that but according to some astronomer dude they wont be 100% sure it was anything until the next time that telescope is pointed at the same spot in the universe...which wont be for like six months. But it received the same signal the last two times it analyzed that part of the universe so if they get a third hit then they'll know it's not a coincidence.

Very cool stuff - doesn't this sort of clash with the United Devices application, though? Your processor can only solve one Universal problem at a time! Aliens or a cure for cancer... NOT BOTH!

i heard it's pretty cool..

i don't have it, because i do not have broadband, but when i do get it, i will register for it, because i always was interested in extraterrestrial life out in another universe somewhere.

just rumors, but i heard that the program opens a port for quality hackers to get into your computer. something like that. the hackers can get access into your computer and do a whole bunch of the usual adware and virus junk. just rumors

maybe aliens = the cure for cancer.

i remember back in high school all the computers had it. i think one of the IT guys put it on everything.

i installed Seti@Home on most of my sophmore year teacher's computers. I would get my friends to distract them and i'd load it up. near the end of the grading period, my teacher called me up to the computer to show me my grades. i briefly took a glance at the start menu and noticed it was still running.

I saw a TV program on space couple days ago and apparently they have so much backlog data that they need people to search through it for them for planets that could support life and such. ( I could be wrong) :P Like fluctuations in light from a distant star which indicates that the star has planets. Edit: I think I'm talking about something else hehe....
