Yeah, May 18th, 1980. Without much warning, immediately after a magnitude 5.1 earthquake. Largest ever landslide in recorded history.

The US Geological Survey has issued an advisory that is the third of four levels--with the fourth being eruption. Lots of tectonic activity in the past month. Even in our neck of the woods. Pickering and Clarington both registered magnitude 1.3 quakes in the past 30 days.
