Im using Cubase SX2.0.

I had few VST running such as Battery, 2x Z3ta, Superwave & Vanguard. But it just drive my power alot! How can I prevent that? is too 5 VST running at the same time been too much? I merely 3 of them on midi to run on. And the rest are as a blank MIDI. But still .... Darn!! Any idea I can reduce the risk??

It just too much or rather is it been normal??

it depends on the sound-settings of the individual synths.. you could even with ONE z3ta+ use the full processing power ;)

darn. i cant use lots of VST at the same time. brat.. darn!!:whip:

you actually can use multiple vst's and use teh freeze function so that it minimizes the cpu usage...press F11 and click the snow flake beside the vsti you want to freeze. you must have the midi notes there for it to play something. What feeze does it basically bounce the vsti to an audio track but not really. Just remeber that you cannot change any vsti parameters after you haev forzen that VSTi...to do so you must unfreez it. Its easy just do it and you will see.

Be sure to set the project time to a reasonable value then (maybe 10-30 s more than you think your tune will be). Otherwise the freeze function will take pretty long, and make huge freeze files.

But yes, it can be normal that you max out your cpu by enabling synths that aren't even playing : some softsynths directly allocate a certain amount of processing, even without playing. z3ta is know to consume a lot.

the freeze function sucks big time...

u could freeze in the earlier versions of Cubase as well.. just render the MIDI to WAV and uneable the VST... and simply enable the VST when u want it back

besides the freeze takes ages to render as well...

Yeh I don't really like the freeze function. It takes forever and it doesn't freeze the FX which can take up 10x the VSTi....

But make sure you're running at 24/48... running at 96khz+ can double your CPU usage

Thanks guys.. I dun like using of Freeze option thou.

but somehow Subtle made a point for me. I bounce to Wav first. When I need to do any arrangement or adjustment then i use on the VST again then. At least it do save mine CPU usage..

Z3ta is hell power consume... OMG :whip:

Use FXFreeze, perfect tool!!! http://www.fxfreeze.com/

If you have the 64-bit Windows XP and an 64-bit processor, then Cubase SX 3 is a must have :D ( Tests showed that the speed is on average 50% greater in 64-bit when compared to the 32-bit version )

The Fx freeze function of Cubase SX 3 has also improved signifantly. It's only 150 euro's to upgrade it to SX 3 :D

i can run 10 VSTs and 20 FX Plugins without probs on my DAW (decreasing latency to 12 or 15ms though) but i recently came along CPU resource issues when i had to run a lot more synth including the CPU-Hog itself: z3ta...just bounced the tracks down as Audiofiles, removed the plugin + fx and thats it :) more CPU!
especially useful when removing the z3tas
