it's a real shame it looks like it's gonna be all for nothing. Since it doesn't look like the Giants are gonna make the playoffs... too bad

Game's not over yet. And Bonds hitting 71 right here at home is just sooo sweet. :)

And it's also funny how every time someone walks Bonds, they get punished for it.

nah..dont feel sorry for him, hes a multi millionaire that can afford to spend 3 mil on a 4 dollar ball.

the following is an article from earlier in the baseball season, i guess.
------------------------------------
MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Comic book and toy tycoon Todd McFarlane is well aware that his $2.7 million investment in Mark McGwire's 70th home run ball might become worthless if Barry Bonds breaks the mark this season.

"Yeah, I'm getting those calls already," McFarlane told the East Valley Tribune in a story published Friday. "I'm the village idiot ... the fool who will have a four-dollar baseball if Bonds hits 71."

McFarlane, an Arizona resident who created the Spawn comic book character and also produces a line of sports, action and rock 'n roll-related toys, bought the McGwire ball at an auction in January 1999.

For $600,000 more, he also purchased McGwire's first home run ball of the 1998 season plus Nos. 63, 67, 68 and 69 and three of Sammy Sosa's 1998 home run balls (Nos. 33, 61 and 66).

"History will always be on my side," he said. "People talk cavalier about Bonds hitting 70. But he never hit 50 before and all of a sudden he's going to go between 70 and 80? Let him get to 50 or 60, then we'll talk about it."

If Bonds gets to 69 homers, however, McFarlane joked that he'll go to whatever ballpark the San Francisco Giants are playing and be carrying a huge sign.

"It'll say: '69 will be just fine,"' McFarlane said. "And if he does break it, I hope 71 goes in McCovey Cove (at San Francisco's Pacific Bell Park) and some whale swallows it."

But if Bonds does hit No. 71 this season and the ball is retrieved, McFarlane wants to add it to his collection.

"Oh sure. If it goes up for auction, I've got to be there," he said. "It's all about spin doctoring. I become the instant 800-pound gorilla the instant I walk in there. They'll be a collective hush in the room when I walk in and everybody will say, 'Oh my God, the madman is here.' Then I'll get the ball for five bucks."
