Drum effect method

I was trying to explain my method of programming drums to someone earlier, and it got me wondering... I use a drum sampler and route each individual drum sound to its own channel. I use dry samples and effect each sound on its own channel independantly. then I send all the channels to 1 bus and mix them down to a single percussion track. Does anyone else use a similar method, or are you effecting your drums all at the same time?

I always do pretty much the same.
In reason, if you don't know, the drum machine has 10 channels, and the mixers 14 (you can use multiple of both of course).

I always put individual effects on the samples that need them (most do), and route the rest to a single track in the mixer. In a full track I usually get 1-2 redrums and a mixer full of drums, which then is routed into a main mixer together with a synth mixer or similar.

Is this what you're talking about?

Ehh, I can't be bothered. I usually work pretty much on impulse so I just throw a new redrum/NN-19 for every sample I use.
You should see my rns files, they're a complete mess...

what I do is record a single hit from my D-Station and have that in a single track in SX...then compress it and eq it, ect..I make a loop of it and compress that a little more. Then I'll do the same for all my other percussion sounds(depending on the sound I want). I like to keep them all on thier own dedicated tracks so I can do as I please with them. I just keep all my perc's in a folder track so I can keep them organized.

kick - channel 1
snare - channel 2
all hats (opn, close, cymb) - channel 3
snare roll - channel 4
crash and revcrash - channel 5
konga - channel 6
other fx samples - 7 & 8
each channel is effected separately, even though they all use the same sends. in 90% of the cases this is it. in trance tracks, 10% the drums are mixed to a group channel and compressed or whatever. in drum'n'bass tracks, 80% of the tracks have all the drums processed (mostly compression only) together as a group.

ditto, except i haven't used redrum since 2001

sometimes i route an entire mixer of percs through an effects unit (scream 4 for instance)

I use a seperate channel for each drum or perc, that way I get maximum control over each element. And the ReDrum on Reason bugs the hell out of me, the best thing I learned about it was not to use it.

That's the way I work...Total control over each particular instrument :D
