Well well well, all you belligerent layperson who appear to have your own little clique and are quite anal about bonding. Can you do me a favour and diversify? We need some affirmative action here, this constant rhetoric doesn't utilitize everyone's abilities, you know what I mean? People have enough problems, not being articulate, fishers on strike, and the worst part, my cousin (not really a problem for everyone else). We need to crack down and compartmentalize, a forward thinking outlook is required.
this is not funny, but I thought I'd be a dick anyway, my bad. :p |

I absolutely abhor the word Floccinaucinihilipilification. Every time i have to say Floccinaucinihilipilification my stomach churns, my eyes begin to water and i begin to feel a great sense of despondensy. Floccinaucinihilipilification - even writting the the word makes me cringe...Floccinaucinihilipilification. The word should be obliterated from the English language. Oh, and in case some of you don't know what Floccinaucinihilipilification means ( and i doubt there are many of you that don't -- given how frequently the word pops up in everyday vernacular, i've managed to pin down the definition...now, if only i don't have to say Floccinaucinihilipilification again, i'll be able to live out the rest of my days in peace.
Floccinaucinihilipilification is the act or habit of esteeming or describing something as worthless, or making something to be worthless by said means.
It is pronounced 'flä-chE-'nau-chE-ni-'hi-lE-'pi-lE-fI-'ca-shun\. (Pronunciation Symbols (http://www.m-w.com/aschart.htm)) It may also be pronounced "FLOK-sih-noh-see-NEE-hee-lee-PEE-lih-fih-KAY-shun".
It is the longest non-technical word in the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), where it dates back to 1741. The first use the OED gives is from the poet William Shenstone in 1741: "I loved him for nothing so much as his flocci-nauci-nihili-pili-fication of money".
It is said to have been made up as an erudite joke by an Eton College student, who, upon consulting a Latin textbook, found four words meaning 'nothing' or 'worthless,' tacked them all together, and added verb endings. This was presented in "a well-known rule from the Eton Latin Grammar", as for example:
flocci - Latin, "a sheep's fleece or piece of wool", as in flocci non facio - "I don't care" (literally "I couldn't give a sheep's fleece)
nauci - Latin, "of the trifle"
nihil - Latin, "nothing"
pili - Latin, "the hairs", by implication small and insignificant
In fact, as given in the OED, the word includes four sets of quotation marks and is presented thus:
"Flocci" "nauci" "nihili" "pili" fication
The OED appears to have overlooked the more popular present form, floccinaucinihilipilificatious, which has one letter more than the nominal form, and means "small" or "insignificant."
It is often spelled with hyphens, and has even spawned the back formations: floccinaucical ("inconsiderable, trifling") and floccinaucity ("thing of small importance").

How about "naw mean?"
Actually this is interesting, there are some words I never expected to see, like belligerent, or clique. Why do those words bother you so much, is there someone you know/used to know that overused them?
Edit: oh yeah, almost forgot:
"Guvaholic"

might be because of the context in which they're used. clique has a bad connotation to it when you aren't a part of the said clique. ie/ the cool kids in high school.
as for belligerent, it's associated with being forceful about something, in which case can get annoying when the belligerent person fails to yield to different opinions and such.
it all depends on the person tho. in the corporate world, being belligerent means being successful, if you can control your belligerency (?)
lol, anyways, back to MATH! *hears samhouse scream* :p ing graph theory.. |
