| what mood were you in when you made your best mix. For me, it was coming back from a bad day at school. I usually feel the most motivated to mix when im not in high spirits. I guess DJ'ing raises them up. |

| After a nite of clubbing, being KINDA drunk, or stoned.... which is strange... LOL... it was hard to mix stoned, but I did a damn good job... just alot of work to make it good...:tongue2 |

| After 1 or 2 beers, when you get that slight buzz but aren't too drunk to think/mix coherently. |

| My best recorded mixes (ie: something i hear sober) is when i come home from the club after getting wasted or not, but completely convinced i was better than whoever was playing. Nothing is better motivation than someone behind the tables that you know you can outdo hands down. |

mixing is much fun on base (amphetamines), you can't go wrong because your sense of timing is so pinpoint accurate :p
in soberness, i mix best when i'm nice and fresh after a bath in the morning, and not had a chance to have a spliff yet ;)
although having said that, i used to find it very difficult to mix stoned and used to it up nearly every time. but i have persued mixing whilst stoned and i can now do it! i think there are 2 seperate learning curves with mixing, sober mixing, and stoned mixing. |

I tend not to work under the influence of anything.
Don't want to do base as I don't want to become dependant on a substance to perform well. The problem with substances over time is that you will eventually depend on them just to get a mediocre performance out. Not talking about addiction, it's more a psychological thing. I have seen this happen to so many DJs.
Best mood for me is happy and excited and after having DJayed since 1986 I surprise myself at still being able to find the motivation. I truly love what I do. :)
Sometimes if I feel tired I can have trouble feeling I want to do it. I tend to play better if I get to play in a new place and see a new crowd. Sometimes you just know you are in the zone as soon as you play the first track. Crowd enthusiasm also has an effect on me. If people don't look as if they want to be there during the warm up guys I look to take on the challenge of getting people fired up. I love leaving people with the memory of how the night just changed.
I also love bouncing around like a nut behind the decks when I hear a track I like. People respond to that too, so I guess I DJ better when I see that.
Plain and simple, if I didn't love it I wouldn't do it.
I DJ best when I'm happy and given that I am doing a job that I love then I am happy quite a lot.
Cheers

true, and base is a drug the week after too!
if i'm playing a club gig the most i will have is a redbull or 2, never drugs. what i was talking about was what i've experienced when i get home form a night out where i've had base lol..
the crowd does make a huge difference. at my first gig, there were a lot of people there to see me (and my best mate alan who did the warm-up, also his debut :D). stevie G (sundissential resident) was on before me and they were actually shouting the guy to get off lol. everybody was well behind me, i dropped the first track and the place went mental. from there on i knew it was going to be the best set i've ever played, and it was! it gives you confidence, and (none coke induced) confidence is a massive help behind the decks. |

| I will also have to thrown my hat in the ring of drugs. One night I came home after doing some x and they were very speedy. A friend and I mixed till 6:30 in the morning and some of that stuff ended up being my best so far, until the sun started coming up....that really s me up when I see the sun come up the next day without any sleep for some reason. |
