I'm Hyped about this first gig. I'm only 14 so I can only dj on High School Bash nights which is 9th grade to 12th grade. I'm djing at Nick's Sneaky Petes here in Albany NY, it's a club, hip hop, dance, party music. They have good equipment and just updated a few weeks ago to some top of the line stuff :). I think they bought a xone 92 and a cdj-1000mk2. I don't have much vinyl so I was thinking about going on some legal mp3 download site and buying some mp3's then burning to cd and playing cd's only. Would the owner bitch at me about that? Also...they like that pop crap remix's of stuff...like Mia Lounge plays :stongue: with the house dj's. Like britney spears remixes and such. Should I play a few of those tunes, then drop some massives? :conf:

Also, I'm a bit scared and I got like tons of stage fright, what should I do? :nervous:

throw glowsticks out to the crowd and rave as hard as your body can possibly rave.

i dunno, inmy experience teenagers like pop stuff....

you wanna have more at that place....might want to play the pop stuff, and test them with others....

but don't be sacred...you're doing what you love....

its like breathing, it will come naturally.

Thats pretty cool that you get to go there, I went there once a few weeks ago for a college night which I guess would be similar to the high school night. I'm not sure how much trance they'd want you to play though, the whole night was mostly hiphop. The only exception was late into it they played sandstorm followed by some cheesy hard house(I think thats what genre it was...) tunes for 30 minutes. My advice would be stick to the pop stuff, and try to play mostly vocal tunes for stuff that they might not easily recognize. Good luck at your gig!

I always say it's much harder when you think about it beforehand. If you sit around the day of your gig and worry about it, think up the tunes and stuff, then you're only going to make yourself more nervous. Just try to relax and be yourself. It can be hard to balance between playing what you like, and what the people like, but always remember: Your job as a DJ is to keep people dancing and entertained. If you go with what you're feeling at the time, most likely the two will line up together. Usually a high energy crowd can make you like almost anything you're spining. :D
