LOL,
So what exactly is your point here with this thread??
Are you trying to suggest that the Bush admin. is making all of this up for political purposes? You don't believe that terrorist could indeed be plotting to do the same thing here in the USA as they did in Russia? I'm suprised it hasn't already happened actually. You aren't some kind of conspiracy nut are you?
I believe we are not getting a lot of reports on the situation in Aphganistan because that is a military matter and releasing intel on that could undermine current military ops. You think only americans watch CNN??! |
lol  |

Personally, I would be fearful if I was living in Canada more so. The USA has a lot tighter security than Canada. Glad I don't have to live up there. |

Good points Spacey. I acknowlege that. Well I think durring a controversial election like this one there is a lot going on behind the scenes. I believe the terrorist threat is real. The release of info could indeed be political also. I do not believe it is fabricated. In general, I believe that most stuff is kept from the public in all nations unless it is deemed important by that government to release. A kind of a 'need to know basis' type of thing. And often there is just a lot of stuff the public doesn't need to know about, because it may undermine objectives that are beneficial to that nation. This is the reality of life. However, as US citizens I know we are more informed by our government than 99/100 of the other nations are by their governments.
Btw-If I was to venture a guess I would say that most all of the nations including European get 99% of their news from U.S. sources.

The point is not whether facts are made up. The point is that information is purposely released for political reasons.
For instance, consider these school district disks. Someone discovered these disks. (Who knows where exactly in iraq and by whom.) Someone in the adminstration decided to disclose that these disks had been found. Why would they disclose this to the general public? What could be gained? Who would benefit? Who would not?
What if they found a map of Los Angeles. Would they disclose that too? A map of New York City? (Or any other tourist destination.) My point, here, is that the US administration has discretion over what information it releases. Everyone must question why they exercise this discretion on some occasions and not others. On the surface, the release of this story seems very suspect.
So the question should not be whether they made it up (in some cases they have) but why they released the information. There is difference. ;) |

LOL! I hope you are not really serious??? If you believe that then you are a fool. No offense, but you need to seriously have a reality check, study or pay more attention to things that are going on in the world. Islamic extremists are against "Western culture" and christianity. Why do you think they attacked Spain, Russia, Indonesia, have plotted against France and numerous other European countries???? They are all 'Western'. Canada is also 'western' nation. I hope the majority of canadians are NOT as naive as you. Like it or not this is a global war and you guys are in it as much as we are. And no Bush didn't start this war. It is a fundamental part of Islam that we are the enemies. |

Did it look like I was merely "suggesting" anything? That is exactly what I am saying, and I'll demonstrate evidence below.
| quote: | | You don't believe that terrorist could indeed be plotting to do the same thing here in the USA as they did in Russia? |
Of course I believe they're plotting. However, evidence from the last few terrorist alerts clearly demonstrate a pattern not based on motives of protection, but on political maneuvering.
| quote: | | I'm suprised it hasn't already happened actually. |
To a certain extent, I agree. Considering how incredibly lackadaisical Bush has been on protecting the Homeland, everything from a lack of protection on the borders, the shores, nuclear and chemical plants, hell it's scary how easy a terrorist could attack us. But then again, an attack like an airplane-used-as-a-missile is highly unlikely to happen again with out current protection.
| quote: | | You aren't some kind of conspiracy nut are you? |
Of the worst kind, sir.
MUUHAAAAHAAAAHAAAAA!!!!
| quote: | | I believe we are not getting a lot of reports on the situation in Aphganistan because that is a military matter and releasing intel on that could undermine current military ops. You think only americans watch CNN??! |
I see, so by that logic our media works not just to warn Americans of attacks, but to thwart terrorists from attacking us because we are showing their "attack" plans for all to see? You really think that the terrorists, after watching CNN reveal the terrorist alert for possible school attacks, walked around fuming in anger and yelled in Arabic,
"Dang! Foiled again!"
And you think I'm the conspiracy nut?
Here, munch on a few things here:
Remember the most recent terrorist warning, coincidentally right around the Democratic National Convention?:
http://www.scoop.co.nz/mason/stories/HL0408/S00025.htm
Remember how credible people thought those were? Remember how our First Lady and one of her daughters was ACTUALLY at one of those buildings supposedly in target during the warning?
Remember Ashcroft comin' out and issuing warnings before checking with Ridge and Homeland Security? You ever check the polls around that time? Bush was kinda slippin':
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy...-2004May27.html
And, oh boy, remember all that fun hubub over duct tape? Well our President had clearly stated that, "we don't take a bunch of polls and focus groups to tell us what we ought to do." Yet strangely, that was exactly what they had done before issuing that duct tape scare:
http://www.hypocrites.com/article10462.html
But more specifically, check out the timing of it all:
http://www.funkspace.com/articles/orangealert.html
Or how 'bout that terrorist scare of bombing the casinos in Vegas?:
http://www.trinicenter.com/oops/29122003.html
Here's an article dating back over 2 yrs. ago from Brookings Institute, clearly demonstrating how well our Administration utilizes their tactics of spreading the fear across the media:
http://www.brookings.edu/views/op-e...er/20020523.htm
It's really not a far stretch to imagine our Administration politicizing terrorist alerts. Considering our President has recently politicized the major assaults on the Iraq:
| quote: | Major Assaults on Hold Until After U.S. Vote
"When this election's over, you'll see us move very vigorously," said one senior administration official involved in strategic planning, speaking on condition of anonymity.
"Once you're past the election, it changes the political ramifications" of a large-scale offensive, the official said.

you really think politicizing our terrorist alerts is that far of a stretch? |

Any takers?:
| quote: | Washington Ferries May Be Eyed for Attack
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Filed at 10:21 p.m. ET
SEATTLE (AP) -- Federal authorities believe Washington state's ferry system has been under surveillance and could be a possible target for a terrorist attack, The Seattle Times reported Sunday.
An FBI assessment determined that 19 suspicious incidents reported by law enforcement officers, ferry workers and passengers since the Sept. 11 attacks were highly likely or extremely likely to involve terrorist surveillance, the Times reported.
``We may well be the target of preoperational terrorist planning,'' said U.S. Attorney John McKay.
McKay and other security officials said the assessment helped prompt new security requirements that began Saturday on the Washington ferries, the nation's largest ferry system.
Suspicious incidents included individuals asking questions about ferry operations or taking photos of stairwells, car decks and workers, according to a document obtained by the Times.
A man who is a subject of an FBI terrorism investigation allegedly was involved in three incidents: one two days after the 2001 attacks in which he allegedly videotaped an oil refinery, a bridge and Navy flight operations; another involving the videotaping of a ferry's car deck in September 2003; and a third the following day in which a ferry was videotaped as it was loaded and unloaded.
Patrick Adams, Seattle FBI special agent in charge, said he does not think the man poses ``an immediate threat to anyone here in the Seattle area,'' but declined to elaborate.
Edmund Kiley, chief of security for Washington State Ferries, said security is better than in past years. Thousands of cars are screened daily by explosives-detecting dogs, Kiley said, and more Washington State Patrol troopers are present.
In late 1999, a terrorist plot was thwarted when an Algerian man with a car full of explosives was arrested in Port Angeles, Wash., as he left a ferry from British Columbia. Ahmed Ressam, who had trained at Osama bin Laden's terrorism camps in Afghanistan, was convicted of plotting a terrorist attack on Los Angeles International Airport during millennium celebrations.

Damn! I've been on that Port Angeles ferry before, eeeek.
I see how the releasing of threats does seem to fall on the times when Bush support drops and I definately agree that the media is being used to scare us into submission. Why would anyone want to attack a boat full of blue collar workers and retired old people?
This happened when Clinton was prez right?
I don't kow what to kame of all this, I really wish I could just trust the people who we pay to get all this information from us instead of running around blindly guessing which threats are real and which ones are spread for political gain, if only politics worked solely in the public interest, this "political gain" bull is what s upthis country. |

First let me just correct something I said on my last post, I said Indonesia was a 'western' nation. My mistake. It was attacked by terrorists but it is not a western culture. Indonesia has the largest muslim pop in the world. Now to comment on the above post.
Spain and many of these other nations who have been victims of Islamic terrorists were peaceful too. That didn't make them immunce to attacks did it?? IMO the more peaceful a nation you are the more vulnerable you are to an attack. and the more effective that terror is on the population. the perfect example is Spain. They fell apart after that attack. It was pitiful. The terrorists were victorious. Spain didn't have the backbone and courage to stand up against these bullies. I love Spain, been there twice on vacation and it's beautiful yet I'm so dissapointed in them these days. Did you see the US back down after sept 11??
My opinion- Pres. Bush is the strongest US president since FDR in 50's. Thats right. I believe he will go down in history as one of the greatest US presidents. Great presidents and leaders most often come out of catastrophe. FDR and with world war 2 and Pearl Harbor and the depression. Abraham Lincoln and slavery and civil war. Washington with the Revolutionary war, Madison and the war of 1812.
The best presidents were strong leaders who like Bush, had conviction and vision. These were also spiritually strong men with strong faith in God and christianity. Their actions or decisions weren't always the most popular but they stood their ground and later history shown that their actions shaped the future of their nation for the better.
enough said. |
