formatting the hard drive

| when you go to format the hard drive can you do it while in safe mode? i keep getting an error message whenever i try to do it in safe mode, but the laptop wont load up in regular mode. basically the laptop has a virus and i just want to erase the hard drive...any advice? |

| You can boot your laptop from a floppy or cd, then format the hard disk. |

In safe mode you're still running Windows so you can't format the drive...
When you boot from floppy, no programs from the HD are being used so you can format it. |
