Tom Hayden Defends Kerry on Fonda Connection

1960's anti-war radical Tom Hayden has stepped forward to defend likely Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, saying that Kerry did nothing wrong when he teamed up with Hayden's ex-wife "Hanoi Jane" Fonda to stage anti-U.S. demonstrations during the Vietnam War.

But aides stressed that Kerry and Fonda were only acquaintances, and the meeting took place two years before Fonda took a controversial trip behind enemy lines and posed for pictures on a North Vietnam army anti-aircraft gun which prompted her angry detractors to dub her "Hanoi Jane."

"John Kerry and Jane Fonda were just acquaintances," Ms. Cutter said. "What's important to understand here is two things: He met her before she went to Vietnam, and he did not approve of her very controversial trip."

WASHINGTON -- A 34-year-old flier lists speakers for an anti-Vietnam War rally at Valley Forge State Park, Pa., Sept. 7, 1970. Included were two of that era's most notorious leftist agitators, the Rev. James Bevel and Mark Lane, plus actress Jane Fonda, a symbol of extreme opposition to the war. Leading off the list was a less familiar name: John Kerry.

So much for the contention by Kerry supporters that his connection with "Hanoi Jane" (so called for her later visit to the enemy capital in time of war) was accidental juxtaposition in a photograph.

Fonda said, "Any attempts to link Kerry to me and make him look bad with that connection is completely false. We were at a rally for veterans at the same time."

Fonda confirmed they both spoke at the event, but adds, "I don't even think we shook hands."

A spokeswoman for John Kerry said, "John Kerry and Jane Fonda were just acquaintances."

A young Kerry, however, broke faith with his brothers when he returned to the United States. With the financial aid of Jane Fonda, he led highly visible protests against the war. He wrote a book that many considered to be pro-Hanoi, titled "The New Soldier."

People our age(20s) cant relate to that that much, but ask the 60 year olders and they have a STRONG opinion about that.

YOU have evidence of Kerry teaming up with Fonda? My God, you'd better present it then! At present, no one, not even the most ardent conservative smear artist dirt digger, has any evidence of Kerry "teaming up" with Fonda! They DO have a pic of Kerry being at the same rally as Fonda, but in terms of "teaming up", well, not so far.

I really hope you can make some breaking news here! Come forth with thy evidence, oh great one!

***and while you're at it, could you do us a favor and tell us how it relates to current pressing issues like this, this, and this.

Oh, and this, this, and this would be a good tie-in too.***

Thanks.

and once you are done with that, tell us exactly who shot Kennedy...

There's no conspiracy there. Read it carefully again. I added some more articles.

And your last article just exemplified my point:

By "teaming up", you directly imply a relationship between the two. Speaking at a rally in which the other person has attended does not in any way correlate a relationship, esp. one that may correlate a "teaming up" of sorts. We've been over this topic before. If someone wants to do a quick search and post a link, feel free. We could just as easily correlate, err incriminate Bush or his advisors with someone that may, shall we say, puts him in a "bad" light.

Case in point:

Actually, my case is much stronger, considering an actual relationship is evident here.

Did Kerry and Fonda share the somewhat similar anti-war beliefs?

Uhh, yeah. And?

More articles posted at the top.

JFK (No not the dead one) met Jane Fonda. Hence the thread title.

It is confirmed by Ms. Fonda, her ex-husband Mr. Hayden and Ms. Cutter spokeswoman for John Kerry.

No conspiracies there.
