alright peeps,
looking to get some sort of external soundcard as i want to replace my creative audigy 2 (or is that good enough for the time being?). I'm hoping to save some money up and get one maybe early next year.
I have usb2 and firewire, but i want to get sommat that will work fine for a long time and i dont plan to upgrade it. So it has to be sufficient. Think of it as the 1210 of soundcards.
Possible spend around 500 UK pounds (1000 US dollars)
What is better, internal or external?
My mate told me to get the yamaha 01X digital mixer as it has intergrated soundcard, mixer and other bits and bobs. But i feel a dedicated soundcard to do the sound thing and then get a dedicated mixer to do the channel mixing. Or is he right, i'm better off getting the combined package? He does have problems with trying to make it work on cubase SX 2 like. |

| If I were you I'd look into the RME Hammerfall Multiface. I've been through so many cards. I finally found my sound card soul mate with the RME :D |

| I would look at firewire cards - particularly the MOTU 828mk2 or if you want a control surface and preamps built in - the Tascam one (there is only 1 model). |

As far as I am aware, USB 2.0 is technically faster than firewire (the old firewire :P), but USB has some kind of weird overheads that make it slower in reality, and higher latency. I don't know for sure, but I think it is something like that :D |
