So I was sposed to play at a couple parties last night and as I didn't want to lug around my technics I opted to use my pioneer decks. First party went out w/o a hitch. 2nd party is where I came across trouble. I was totally beginning my set when this hippie guy wearing a burger king crown approached me and introduced himself. No problems I like meeting new people don't mind being bugged during a set either. Anyways then it was all downhill. First he asked if all I was playing was techno, I was playing Trance, so I corrected him. Then he's like I have some better techno in the car, I was like oh so what do you have. He busts out Darude, Chemical Brothers, and Prodigy. Then for the next 30 minutes he persists in bugging the hell out of me about me playing one of those CD's I'm like "No I have a set list, I could deviate but only into darude as I have no idea whats on the other two cd's" So he then buggs and buggs me then asks if I can mix in Modest Mouse. I'm like dude are you ting me hard trance into Modest Mouse!?!
Long story short he spent the rest of the evening trying to tell me how a pitch shifter works, and then as I proceeded to ignore him he drives off in his land rover. His yuppie ass hippie wanna be ing ass will be castrated if I ever see him again. |

did you go alone or with any friends? if you had friends you should have had them take his ass out...:D otherwise, throw on some really long track to give you time to walk out of the booth, punch him in the face hard enough to knock him out, and then go back into the booth and continue.

whoa ya.... i know exactly how you feel....
I did my brother's house party last year, trying to run entirely on vinyl... i made it a simple house/techno set to get em all grooved up, but soon atfer maybe the 7th song, I was approached by about 3 of my bro's friends asking for rock music. I said "does it look like I have cd-players to mix with?".. and one of the kids pops out his portable cd-player and says "here plug this in!.. it's linkin park!... they use a DJ in their band!".
I started burning up, so I dropped Prodigy's Firestarter and they left me alone... the rest is boring, but damn i was so ennerved!!! |

| thats why I carry remixes of popular songs. Michael Feihstel did a kick ass remix of a linkin park song, u could drop that. Plus I have tons o rock remixes to keep em satiated between other 'good' tracks. :wtf: |

My friend owns these cheap CD decks, I think they are Numark, well I had been dicking around with them at his house for awhile and I had gotten the hang of mixing pretty well, nothing spectacular, but I could match the beats on the records, etc.
Well he asked to me to spin at this party that he said would be "a couple of his friends" so I was like sure, ok, why not, what could it hurt?
Since I didnt have any of my own equipment yet, I figured it would be best to just use his .
Well it turns out like 200 in people show up right. So he has everything, except the god damn headphones. Turns out he loaned them to one of his friends are forgot to get them back. LOL. So me, being the innovative individual I am, I asked him if he had one of those adapters that convert a miniplug into a big one (I don't know the technical term), Paul said he had one, hooked me up, and I went out to my car and took the headphones from my CD player, and used those to mix.
Like, it was harder to do it, becuase you don't get that AMAZING sound, but it still worked, I did trainwreck like a billion times, but I don't think anyone noticed. Alcohol makes your transitions always sound good.
However, people kept asking me to play gay songs, like Sandstorm. I told them to wait and I would play it, however I never did. I just played hardcore techno all night and it was the .
Anyways, sorry to hear about your "dj nightmare", but was it really that bad? I mean, the guy could have pulled your pants down and started ing you in the ass and then your girlfriend could have seen you and thought you were gay and then she turned lesbian and you couldn't get her back, etc.
But anyways, I'm done. 3:30 AM, I need sleep. |
