howard resorted to pretty lame tactics to win this election. the majority of the australian public holds the IQ of a shoelace. it isn't too hard to sway votes, you know especially when they put a shiney pretty yellow 'L' on lathams name.
if labour has pressed the issue of iraq, and the fact that costello will take over soon enough... it would've been a far more interesting campaign. |

| man the commercial where liberal ragged on latham for ing up some local budget was funny, they rolled him big time, and i dont even like politics. but he got owned. |

exactly my point, cheap antics like those ads were what cost labour and latham
if the idiot actually stooped down to howards level, we would've seen a battle to the death |

they tried that campaign in some electorates and it backfired, badly.
what do you think of when people say peter costello? you think of the economy. with the liberal advertising campaign highlighting mark latham's poor economic management skills, with labor pointing out that peter costello would be their next prime minister, actually swayed people to vote liberal. |

the thing is that economics is probably Latham's strongest point, he has been writing books about economics at a fairly high theoretical level for years. For some reason Labor didn't try to play this up at all.
The liberals have been getting tips from the dirtiest political campaigners out there, the American Republican party and they kicked Labor's ass with their ads. It's sad that this is what politics is degenerating to though because next election we are going to see the same thing from both sides. Latham made a genuine attempt to put his vision out there for Australia, with some politically risky policies but what he thought were the right things to do whereas Howard just spent his whole time attacking Latham dishonestly and handing out pork to marginal electorates and it worked a treat. |

How did this turn into an election thread :conf:
Who gives a crap about how the election was won, just face the fact that the Labor party was beaten and that the Liberals are back in power. Nothing that you guys say can change that.
End of story. |
