Need help with speeding ticket coming home from 8year party at the Guv

Such a terrible way to end the night, my whole outlook was that of a bad one. I got pinched coming home on the QEW 3 min from the rainbow bridge. I just have a important question. I got a speeding ticket for 140 km in a 100 km. Thats a god damm 300 dollar ticket for a student living on his own. I know her in the states if we pleed not guilty we get a reduced ticket, usually for less money. It also does not go toward points on your licence (do u guys even have that?). Anyway, i was just wondering if i can get some good tips on how to handle this. Should i just take the hit and mail in the 300 bucks, or should a try going back over to canada and try and fight it to save some extra bucks. Any information would be EXTREMELY helpful. Help me save one of the best nights i have ever had. Go Armin!

i dunno if u guys ave a demerit point system on ur liscence but we do and i had been slapped with a 160 dollar ticket for 134 in 100 zone on the same strip u got pulled over at which meant 4 demerit points..i took it to court recently and well i only got 1 less demerit point :(

but for 300 bucks u got royally ripped off. u would hve to come all teh way back to court which might be quite inconvinient for u so it all depends on u

What happens if you don't pay, given that you don't live in this country? You might want to look into that.

If you are an American, I'm fairly certain you only need to worry about the $$$, and not the points.

If you want to try and get out of the ticket, plead not-guilty and mark on the ticket that you want to challenge the officer's evidence.

Only hope is that he doesn't show up on court day.. and if he doesn't, you're homefree.. if he does, have a sidebar with the Crown Attorney, and do the following to get it reduced in cash and points.

#1 Be remorsefull, if you have a clean driving record, get a copy and bring it to show him/her to convince him that you aren't normally this dangerous a driver.

#2 Claim family emergency, death, whatever to explain your out-of-ordinary behaviour, and also cry poor (resulting fiscal crippling due to non-insured tragic event you just made up should work).

Most likely you will either get off entirely, or get the points dropped/reduced (if they even matter 4 you) and the fine signifigantly reduced.

Best of luck.

Most states and provinces (especially border states) have an agreement / treaty together for driving offences. This is what will happen if you dont pay for your ticket.

In Canada, the province handles these offences (not counties like in the states). Once you are a no show in court or just dont pay for it, the province WILL send a fax to what ever county you live in and let them know you have been convicted, your county will take ownership of that ticket and then pay for the ticket and inturn come after you. As soon as they take ownership, whatever point system you are using, they will minus or add points to your record or whatever the penalty is. Your insurance might go up cuz of the penalty too.

If you do pay the ticket, the province will go on their way and not inform your county about it.

Ontario Traffic Tickets specialize in Ontario driving tickets for Americans. They can reached at 310-8946.

Good Luck

Hey thanks for the info. So I am assuming that if i pay the ticket, i will have nothing to worry about my insurance in the states or my record being tampered with? cause if thats the case ill pay the 295. I am still going to make the trip up to CA to try and baby my way out of it, thanks alot guys u made it hurt a little less.

BTW, the officer was J.DeHeus. And anymore infor would be great. Can always count on the TAs!

Hey, he wasn't the one driving 140 cracked out. Ticket's suck, but nextime stay around 10-15 kph above the limit.. it's only $50, no points, and unlikely to get you pulled over.

I'm not waving the cops are super flag here, but accept responsibility, what you did was stupid.

Well first of all your were speeding - I am afraid that you will have to pay it - you'll most likely spend a lot more - trying to fight something that you are already int he wrong for -

Top it all off - you were mostly likely HI and you couldn't have had your licence FULLY taken away! so be greatful hat you didn’t have that happen!!!! I know someone that happened too! !!!! it's no fun,

Just don’t speed and then you won’t have these things happen –

BE RESPONSIBLE!!!!

Good luck finding cash - better luck next time

If you take it to court they probably qwon't let you off - b/c you were doing 40 over - there is no excuse for putting the peddle to the metal

i got a ticket a few months ago 130bucks for going 79 in a 50
i had to go to a lawyer or w/e he is and i paid 270 since it happened in wasaga the guy has to drive there from tornto but he said he will get the point off for sure
but since you live in the states id prolly just pay for it but points i woudnt care since you dont live here, but you could always try to fight it
