Wrong, "Mate". The first mass produced genre of music called trance came directly from German techno. Or maybe not German techno. But it was made in Germany and directly influenced by the techno of the time.

Well what I've deciphered (correct if wrong) from these posts is that House and Trance were not offshoots from each other and actually have very different birth lines. Is that right?

Even considering that, why are they still seperated from each other? I mean aren't they both just genres of electronica.. Thats the way I look at them. Why would someone be like:

p.s. house sucks

Assuming there aren't avid supporters of either side that despise the other... and if there are, why?

I'm not trying to start a flame thread to figure out which is better, house or trance, I'm trying to understand the distinction between them.

House is about soul, funk, and groove(dancing) in that good house has at least two of these things. House for the most part has stayed true to this. Trance on the other hand is about spacey, hypnotic, trance enducing sounds...which today's Epic/anthem Trance destroyed a large chunk of a long time ago. So House has stayed true to its roots while Trance has not. Now my theory is that this, at least in part, is what causes a divergence of listeners, and animosity between them. Dedicated House fans who despise Epic Trance and its listeners, the former because it dishonors the genre and the latter because they are sheep who perpetuate and bolster the genre's defilement; and Epic Trance fans who just don't understand House...for what reason I dunno...maybe partly because the scene dumps on Trance so often. We hate what we fear. Sometimes we also hate what we don't understand. Also, it's a proven fact not everyone is able to understand the funk.

You are correct in that House came from the united states and Trance came from Germany. Two different places. Since Trances origins take direct influence from Techno you could say that it was influenced by the USA since the genre we know as Techno was invented in the USA. But you can trace anything back far enough to connect to whatever you want it to. Suffice it to say that Trance was created in Germany by German artists who took Techno and transformed it from impersonal machine-oriented music to hypnotizing outer space music. House as we know it was invented in Chicago by...well hell if I know. I'm actually not too clear on the history of House beyond that.

But don't take my word for it. Study up on the history of Trance, House and EDM in general so you can make up your own mind about things. This is Levar Burton, signing off. I think...

Neatly sidestepping The KLF there aren't we? The very first trance came from acid house, and in a way, all acid trance is the "pure" form of trance.

So what? How does that change my point, that it was invented in Germany. What influenced it is not what I was initially trying to get across. And what about The KLF. Are you still on about how one artist makes an entire genre?

Well saying it was invented entirely in Germany is wrong. Most sources agree that it was invented in both the UK and Germany.
