The trick is to learn to live without faith. It's a wondrous, fanciful, fun-filled existence! I feel like flying high in the sky! I could leap tall buildings in a single bound! HOORAY! HOOOOORAAAAAAY!
Kill me. |

you can sit there stressing yourself out constantly about what you're supposed to accomplish in life and worrying about fate or a grand scheme of things, or you can just realize that the entire human race is a contradiction of itself and attempting to follow any paper trail ratifying or defining the purpose of our existence will leave you in a permanent vegitative state or travelling into the desert high on LSD trying to find yourself. Just try to live life man...find the things and people that mean the most to you and attempt to surround yourself with them, enjoy the activities you do and if you arent right now, try to find some that you will.
A large problem with western society is its perception on death, and you seemed preoccupied with questions involving death. Too often a great deal of our efforts go into avoiding death, we make extraordinary efforts to delay it, and often consider it's intrusion a tragic and heartrending experience. Try to think of it like i do:
death gives meaning to our lives, it gives importance and value to time, and if we had too much time, the time we spend alive would eventually just become meaningless to us.
Hope anything I've said helps you out at all man, take 'er ez.

I think this is a major reason that people turn to a religion later in life. They are just too wearied about as many questions as you have, it's much easier to just say with confidence "God will take care of me". Whe needs answers when you're just a pathetic human puppet with a deity's hand right up your ass, anyways? :eyespop:

Honestly i belive this is the easy way out...
Sometimes there are no real answers in life for a very simple reason or 3...
1 - if someone were to have that information it would surely be passed on,, not so much for the good of mankind, but because knowledge is just passed on.
2 - 'god will take care of me syndrome' just drives me insane, why if you cannot come to a conclusion must you believe in the default... just because u a can't come to a conclusion doesn't mean you reach out for an excuse, sure religion has morals and principles that can be abided by in todays 'modern world' but in this world there is a thing called change. and if religion doesn't adapt (but keeping the same principals) people will turn away... the enlighted ones, the ones who can see past it all... im not saying religion is too good for me or that i don't velieve it, science has brought more into my life that religion ever will...
Im just saying... if things don't adapt, natural selection kicks in and surely the weakest will not survive in the mordern world.
3 - refer to #1, if that knowledge is shared by all.. wouldn't that make life boring, think about it... if we all know everything.. wouldn't that be boring? Think about gossip, why is it so popular, because its exciting to know about things, to research, to find out about things, to enhance your ultimate understanding of whatever drives your purpose for knowledge. A picture can be describe in a thousand words, but who's words, someone else's words are surely credible, but won't they be more credible if they came from you in the first place?
I guess somethings are not going ot be found.. im not talking about a grungy wanna be philosopher, just stating the facts, that the less we know, or have of something, the more it will move and portray us to move ahead to reach a goal, a purpose, a meaning in life...
Im into that right now... im trying to make sense of it and all find stability, and until i do i guess i won't be contempt, ultimately the more stable i get the more i wan;t other things, but thats just the way of man, what do men with power ultimately want.... MORE POWER...
what do we learn about this.. is that no matter how much of anything you have... don't you want more???
Or maybe im just a greedy butt... who knows...
Try t find out what you want in life and take small steps in getting there. a very good friend of mine taught me that... and to this day it hasn't failed me....

| I'm sorry to say this but life means nothing. Why should it? God was created just to give people hope that there is somewhere and something better than this life. There isn't. Until God comes down and sits on my face I will continue to believe this. |

Life is a bitch and then you die
still tryin' to get a peace of the apple pie
every game ain't the same, coz the game still remains
don't it seem kinda strange, ain't a damn thing change
if you don't work then you don't eat
and only down-ass niggas can ride with me
hop-hop-hop your five quickly down the block
stay sucka-free and keep the busters off your jock
you gotta have hart son, if you wanna go,
watch this sweet chariot swing low
ainīt nobody cryin` ainīt nobody dyin
ainīt nobody worried, everybody īs tryin
nothin' from nothin' leaves nothin'
if you wanna have something, you better start frontin'
what ya gonna do when the 5 roll by
you better be ready, so you can ride
Come along and ride on a fantasic voyage
slide slide slippity-slide |

you'll figure it out when you die, ironically enough.
just have faith in yourself and the people you love if you're not looking for a "God", and be a good person. you'll stress yourself out with all these unanswerable questions:p |

lots of athiests on TA...
i think there is more intelligence in the universe than just humans...
and if there is a God, and he tried to tell us the ways of the universe, it would be like people trying to explain economics to monkeys...
we humans will never know the truths of the universe...
dogs will never be able to do your taxes ;) |

perhaps the best position to take up and certainly one of the most unbiased is agnosticism. while not professing true atheism, one doubts the existence of the perceptions other people and organized religeons have on god or whatever higher being they worship. rather than supporting or belonging to a specific organized religeon, the study of theology can be an eye opener and let you see the full spectrum of things and the myriad of different beliefs.
i would rather search for god instead of worshipping something i have no evidence of or know next to nothing about...and this does not mean i have no faith, i believe there is a "god" but as far as who/what it is and what beliefs they have..havnt the slightest. |
