How to Fix Pioneer HDJ-1000's loss of signal.

I've had my headphones for over 2 years now prettty much using them every day for at least 2-3 hours. They've been with me to every roadtrip I've taken, every party I've played at, and pretty much everywhere I go. So you can imagine how sad I was when all of a sudden the sound started cutting out randomly in both phones.
It first started happening while I was playing at a party, and I just thought either the setup wasn't connected properly, or the needles were ty. Then I realized that if I applied pressure to different areas on the headphone, I would lose signal and get no sound briefly. I knew my phones were ed.
So I went online of course and looked at what other ppl had to say and surprisingly, other ppl have been getting the same symptoms and have sent their headphones for repair. Only problem is, the warrenty is for a limited time which means I'd have to pay someone to fix them and usually takes at least 6 weeks for me to get it back from the shop.
Forget that, by that time, I would've made enough money to buy another pair but I'm not so keen on spending another $160. So I decided that since my headphones are pretty much dead already, I guess I had nothing to lose if I took it apart to see whats goin on. And this is what happened. . . . .
===========
1. First, you will be taking apart the the can where the cord connects to. This is where your problem will most likely be. The trickiest part starting off is to figure out how to take your phones apart. So first, put your finger underneath the leather padding and pull it towards you, carefully not ripping the inside padding.

2. You should now see something like this. . . . . next with a small phillips screwdriver, take out the 3 black screws.

3. Now, slowly pull the casing apart and you should see something like this. . . .

4. If you look closely, you will see why I was losing signal. The ends of every wire are uncovered (you can see the copper), thus shorting if they were to touch another wire, resulting a loss of signal. Any slight movement or pressure I put on the headphone will move the wires making them touch and that is what was happening. Here is a closer look. . .

5. So to fix that, I put tape around the copper parts to cover them. You might need tweezers to help you if you dont have nimble fingers.

6. Carefully put the case back on. There is only one way to put them back on and you will see that the part with the silver screw sits on top of where the cord meets the phone. While you're at it, double check and make sure the silver screw is screwed in all the way. It's there to secure the the cord and if the screw is wobbly, the cord will be wobbly resulting in loss of signal.

7. Screw in the 3 black screws.
8. The next part is tricky and that is putting back on the leather padding. First you would need to turn the inner flap of the padding inside out. Do it carefully because you do not want to rip it. Here are some pics to show you what I mean. . . .

9. Now comes the hardest part. To get the padding back on, you would have to flip back the flaps into the groove between the two casings. Do it little by little taking your time. If you do it carefully, the flaps should go in easily. Just guide them in with ur fingernail as you go. I can't express to you how important it is to do this slowly.
10. Close up shot of the section flipped back and put in between the groove. . .

11. Once you've tucked everything in, you are done and everything should look normal like so. . .

Cheers!

yea definately :)
For something easy as this, I dont see the point in paying someone to fix it especially if it takes 6+ weeks long to get back! |

that sucks and u'd think for nice headphones they are, theyd at least wouldnt leave so much wire exposed but if you have time, you can easily fix it. Ive had my phones for a long time with no probs but i guess with all the traveling, my headphones have been knocked around a lot thus moving the wires inside. |
