just wonderin if there's much value in them? - wanna get peoples opinions..
i bought a domain a few weeks ago, pretty expensive.
domain = derry.com
and derry = city in northern ireland, with about 100k+ inhabitabts.
i think i could build a viable business around that name. and i plan to in the future. |

| it's worth as much as you can make out of it. i doubt it would be worth muchin resale but if you can build a viable business around it then it is good. |

| My old manager bought www.oceans12.net a few years ago, and got paid $10000 by whichever production company did ocean's eleven back in the day for the sequal :D |

Derry is also the name of a town largely associated with Steven King. This could explain the higher price tag (along with the fact that he just published his final [maybe] book).
I own two doamin names, neither of which will be active as of this time tomorrow:
www.hubmusic.net
www.jadedtrancer.net |

i bought www.outboundapparel.com and i plan to build a business around it in the future too so good luck with that!
a lot of people just make money off of selling domain names to companies...especially when the internet started booming. can you imagine what you would have made if you registered www.sony.com before they decided to have a site? lol you could pretty much name your price. |

| a domain name is invaluable to a company. the way people shop has changed and is continuing to change. i've heard successful companies say that conventional advertising just isn't working anymore because people a: watch less tv and b: are on their computers more and more. so having a website that is easy to remember and catchy is a great tool... |

Didn't the owner for America.com get LOAD of money towards the earlier days of the internet? That would be the coolest thing...
Of course, I heard that the original owner of PETA.com posted only piccies of animals being eaten. :stongue: Then PETA sued him because apparently, they had ownership of that acronym :sadgreen:
Goddamn treehuggers! :toothless
It's probably just a stupid interweb rumor, though. |

Yea defantly worth getting one, but try not to make the site revolve just around yourself, try to have an actual topic on there (say a hobby) makes for a more interesting read, and more ppl will !
im gonna buy one soon (theyre real cheap around £20/year for low-profile name) after ive got a proper site. |
