good people
After almost five years of holding events and having passed a spring, summer and fall this year with friends and friends of friends, it's clear that there are a lot of genuinely good people in the city who are drawn to electronic music. We celebrate this and invite you along for the night.

Medicineman
Richard is our favourite dj emmissary of world music, fusing elements of different cultures with electronic underpinnings to make something truly interesting and funky. He started playing when in Poland teaching, after having travelled across the U.S. in a van and then exploring Europe in the late 90's. These adventures turned him on to music outside of North America and since returning here, his Ciut Radio show 'No Man's Land' has grown quickly in popularity over 5 years. He has been playing the back rooms of alot of the popular psytrance parties lately, giving the chill areas of those events a bit of healthy world dubbiness. He feels music is a journey of sorts and he likes to share his own musical travels with others.
Kick
We first met Monica when she worked at the record store 2theBeat and we liked what she played while in the store. She has been a dj for over 5 years. Having great taste in music and being first in line to hear tonnes of new music at the store has been a good combination for her. She played at one of the first Promise Cherry Beach Soundsystems this summer and was loved by everyone from seasoned promoters and djs to newcomers to electronic music. She likes electro and breaks as well as having a love for techno and the more dubby techhouse styles, so her set will be one of a kind. This is the first time she has played one of our indoor parties.
Dickard and Bobert aka Jonah K and Mike Lambert
We first heard Jonah and Mike play together on four turntables at the space above Metropolis Records a couple of years ago and the set has been echoing in our heads eversince. They were also the highlight of the Saturday night at this year's Om Festival. Mike isknown as one of Toronto's best djs for the funky San Francisco house sounds - he played at our first Promise party ever - and in combination with Jonah, we get to hear the techno lover in him. We have bumped into Mike at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival many years now and those weekends really foster a solid appreciation of techno from that city. The set will have elements of old and new Detroit sounds as well as deep hifi German sounds. Jonah has played alot as a drum and bass dj (he had the dnb room of our Promise 3 year party dripping sweat by midnight), and he makes his own music based in drum and bass elements. The fortunate surprise is that he is an equally good techno dj and this side of him is rarely heard in the Toronto techno community. We really appreciate people who excel in playing more than one genre - it adds something to their knowledge of each - and Jonah has got his own distinct style. There are alot of people who are really looking forward to this set.
Lee Osborne
Lee has been a staple of our Promise parties ever since our first New Years Eve party five years ago. We had heard him playing on a rooftop downtown over that summer and he was literally one of the best djs we had ever heard, so we tracked him down and got him to play. Since helping us along on our journey, he has done really well, playing at numerous events in Canada and the States - we remember that he got to play last year in Quebec at the height of Snowboarding season - lucky guy - and we got so check him out when he opened for Oliver Ho in Buffalo. Things are doing well for Lee and he currently has a residency at the formidable System Soundbar. Lee has always played amazingly at our events and we can't wait to see what he's got for us this Friday.
Psi Co. Balloon Art
Karen West and Danielle Dickson added so much colour and creativity to our Cherry Beach parties this year by spending long sunny afternoons making the most intricate geometric creations out of balloons there. You know those long balloons that you can make animals out of. They put together a massive cube one weekend and even made a 20 foot high blacklight reactive balloon tree at this year's Harvest Festival. It's a joy to watch them work because they are so nimble and cheerful at it and they will be making some creations on site at this party.
Andries
We first met Andries at a bizarre warehouse party with tire swings in it about 6 years ago. Of course he was there taking video and images of all the stuff going on, and we have always associated him with interesting visual work. He created alot of the good visual atmosphere at the successful Element club when it opened and he appreciates the role that visuals play in enhancing the whole experience of a night. It is a treat to have him working with us tonight.
Cheers, David and Irving
