Review: Friday * Chemistry* & Saturday *Boa vs. Stereo* w/ DJ XL!!! @ Boa-Redux

This was my first full weekend spent at Boa, and what a weekend it was. The contrast between the two nights are very evident, but its refreshing to know the variety packed into both individual nights.

First off was Chemistry. This is still a project in the works, but the roster of local talent is proving to be both the most versitile and most entertaining residents this city has to offer. RC started the night off real nice with a blend of funky breaks and pumping house. The crowd was loving it, especially the breaks - and the breakers were out in full force. Such style in the way some of these guys/girls dance, you cant help but bob your head in a frenzy along with them. Matt Coleridge stepped up next and showed the people in attendence his full range of musical genious. Real chuggy, electro influenced beats with the little samplings of what sounds like an 80's video game. Sounds complex, but its the only way i can describe it. The place was going off to his sounds througout his whole set, and at times he reminded me of Mr. Luke Fair. Congrats on a great performance, and thanks again for the excellent demo. I rocked it hard and loud for the drive home! Lady Linzee was next, and pumped it up with the tempo as she usually does, and throws on record after record of fun jumpin house music. You can feel her energy behind the decks every time she spins, and it comes out in her sets everytime. Always with a smile on her face, its infectious on the crowd and the vibe is just incredible. Next Mr. Tremblay. I talked to him earlier in the night, and recalled me giving him for playing too fluffy of a set last time. He said quote "dont worry Jeff - im gonna play hard for you tonite, just wait". He definately came through with his promise. Banging beats right from the get go, it was like he was taking out his revenge on me for my words directed to his previous set. I instantly caught my second wind, and it was off to the races for the next hour or so. I beat my feet to a pulp, and i was completely spent. Night over. Great times had by all, and props to dance2dabeat(Kelly) newr(Ryan) and Callie5(Michelle) for rockin it hard on the dancefloor. I wish i had every Saturday off so i could experience these nights more often.

Now round two. First on the menu were Nevio vs. Dave Sol on 4 Decks. Never heard these two spin together before, so i didnt really know what to expect. These guys were in awesome period. Just slaying the room with bomb after bomb in true Boa fashion. The place was jumping by 3am and you never wouldve thought these guys were opening resident dj's. The track of the night (not sure of the title yet), on Yooshi Records had me dancing harder than i have in a long time. Tomeboy has this record, and ill ID it soon - but holy . Hearing this track on that system gives you a real idea of how good this song is!! Wow. They played til around 3:30 and the big man XL stepped up to the decks. Started out kind of wierd, lots of movie theme sounding instrumentals appearing out of no where, sometimes they worked, and others, well it killed the flow for me. I was standing around waiting for the track for way too long. I thought maybe this would be a let down, but as soon as he got through his experimental phase, he kicked it into high gear and never looked back. This guy had complete control of everyone from about 4:00 til the second i left at 8:00. Lots of remixes, all REALLY good. U2, eurythmics, Lenny Kravitz, Depeche Mode, Janet Jackson, i know theres others. Here Comes the Rain Again (im guessing his own edited version of the original) sounded SO ing good on that system, i had to dance my ass off one last time, even with my heavy leather on! What a way to close out a wicked ass weekend. Thanks for The Highroller(Graham), DigitalMP(Dave), Skipper(Sarah) for adding to the vibe, and being such great company. And of course Rony, Carey, and Erica for all their efforts as well ;)

Now off to bed, and then NFL Football all day long.

The end.

Yes, yes he does ;)

was not expecting to be at boa last night but after closing butt'r I was really too drunk to go home. So to boa we went. XL impressed me more than the last time (and that says a lot) and I managed to rock it out til 6am.

I was really impressed with how much the Saturday night vibe has developed. Awesome work guys.

Fun times

Thanks boys ** wink wink **
DigitalMP
Good times! I walked in just as Nevio & Sol were dropping Skylark - That's More Like It (Nic Fanciulli Remix - LOL). Those guys tore it up...they had the crowd in their hands, and they were having so much fun double-teaming those decks!

When XL got into his groove, he was badass, but I fell out of it around 6 or so, and that's when we took off.

Jeff, Graham, Sarah...great seeing you :)
