US Govt. Funds Chatroom/Forum Spying

| Let me test it out. I'm going to assassinate George Bush. Osama Bin Laden is hiding in my bedroom closet. Don't bother coming to arrest me, i've got weapons of mass destruction and i'm willing to use them. |

Waste of money. It's not as if terrorists are going to go on AOL chat and start planning an attact. Say they were going to do it on a public forum like this. Would they:
a) Create a thread titled: "Terrorist Plot (don't read unless you're part of it plz)"
or
b) 
Same thing in a chat room. They're not going to just advertise their plans to everyone, they're going to use private chat features or they're going to create their own chat room that no one else knows about.
More likely, they'd use private forums or private chat rooms which are easy to create, host, and manage for their very, very private discussions. This seems to me to be another example of policy-makers simply not understanding the internet technology they're supposed to be making policies for. |

its just a small 200,000 grant, its nothing massive. Plus when people take grants like these they usually have a totally different aim in mind, but they cater it to the wants of the gov to get the money. So most likely it was for a another experiment and they will half ass this.
anyways, teh government funds a lot worse experiments......they will be funding mine soon for craps sake. |
