Technically not an instrument yes but there are some DJs out there that have so much skill on the turntables you could compare it to watching a great guitar player.

turntablists can use turntables as an instrument

I play trumpet. I just know the songs my school gives us to do. 10th grade band. Been playing 5 years

my advice to you, is that if your school band is anything like mine, GET OUT NOW! :p

turntablism is a musical talent, and turntables are instruments, no matter how vague. what is scratching other than percussive rhythmic sounds?

since the thread has been resurrected, i've taken up bass again. drums on rare occasions when we around as a band. bass, though, im doing somewhat seriously. orchestrating songs with another very creative person, the lead guitarist, and three talented-enough individuals on drums, keyboard and vocals. we're doing well. four songs, three of them ours, performed at a gig one day after we formed, and it got us another gig.......
yep. that's the status.
