Police: Bathroom Breakaway Suspect Armed, Dangerous
Man Facing Armed Robbery Charges

INKSTER, Mich. -- A man authorities consider to be armed and dangerous escaped from Wayne County sheriff's deputies on Wednesday, Local 4 reported.
Rahman Abdul-Rahim Gillespie, 28, was being transported by the Wayne County Sheriff's Department back to the county jail after a court appearance Wednesday, according to Local 4. Sheriff's deputies took off his handcuffs when he asked to use the bathroom, and he then bolted from the booking area, according to the report.
"The prisoner had asked to use the restroom and went back into the booking room area to be cuffed by the deputies, but the deputies weren't in the booking room at the time," said Commander Gregory Hill, of the Inkster Police Department. "We just hold a prisoner until the arrival of sheriff deputies and at that point in time custody is theirs of any prisoners."
Gillespie ran through an open door and into a garage past sheriff's deputies, the station reported. He was last seen running south on Michigan Avenue.
Gillespie was facing charges of armed robbery and assault in connection with a break-in at the Little Caesar's pizzeria located at Cherry Hill and Henry Ruff two weeks ago, according to police. The suspect also had an outstanding drug felony charge, according to Wayne County sheriff's deputies.
