Although I'm one of a tiny number who doesn't eat chips/fries I can tell you how they work

The cob is just a dry bread roll, and you can put sauce on the chips inside it, the 'mushy peas' are processed and squashed and stuff to give them their appearance and are as much a sauce as anything. I'm amazed some of the British traditions seem to foreign to people who 'speak the same language'

And if people think our slang is bad, they ought to hear some of the regional variations, it'd scare ya

hehe I can bet that... I struggle with the Irish accent at the best of times, and I also dated a scottish girl for 2 years with a hard fife accent, that was solid to understand

let's see...i also like to surprise him with dinner as often as i can. i love to cook and have everything waiting on the table (or close to it) when he gets home.
