This is a question i would like to ask some of you.
I was listening to a set, and Jan Johnston was singing live over the track. As much as i like her work(one of my fav singers) i think she is absolutly TERRIBLE live. completly of key.
I know its great to hear live performances, but not when they are bad!
do you agree? or would you want a singer there in person to add to the event?
how many singers have showed up in TO clubs to sing live? |

No I actually think that Jan Johnston is OK
The one that is absolutely brutal is Andain unfortunately :p:toothless |

i saw lasgo live.. i dont think she was singing though.. it seeemed to be lip syncing
and alice deejay.. hrmmm that was definatley lip syncing
see alot of live singers just do lip syncing... cuase it sounds better
its also very hard to sing alog to trance since the beat doesnt really guide you |

see to me, lip syncing over trance is pointless. in other genres the singer will do this because they are dancing and provided a visual display. but i just dont see this happening in a club.
are all these singers really just pro-tooled to perfection? and thats why they cant put on a good live show? |

Kirsty Herkshaw was pretty bad on Tiesto's album release party set. Dunno what it is .... guess Tiesto and the rest of the trance-master-producers work some magic in the studio. Agreed there's a few trance female artists who sound REALLY bad live including Andain, Jan Johnsoton is OK ... she managed to rescue herself and get back on key on the set I heard. Overall I'd say its a bad idea to have them singing live unless you've heard them live minus the studio gear and know that they are capable. Jes from Motorcycle was quite good live actually at WEMF. |

I remember hearing Omi @ Freedom back in May... Either the sound was bad or something but she didn't sound great live. Her voice would cut out at the low and high frequencies.
But when you think of it, a lot of performers when they sing, don't sound good. They'll usually sound flat, that's what I've noticed. However, I read somewhere that they have these new gadgets that are plugged into the mic directly. They analyze the sound wave and pattern and "help" you because it will determine what key you're in.
So if you are flat on a note, the output from the speakers will sound alright because it's been digitally modified. |
